2020-07-21 03:22:57 -0500 问了问题 Any way to gues the guest operating system?

For an audit for a certain Redmond based company our org would like to know if customers correctly report the os type that they are running in a VM. Obviously we are not going to let nmap loose on all our clients VMs. If a client used one of the images we uploaded, we know the OS, but for client created images does anyone have an idea? We are currently checking if the image name contains 'win' and we are looking if the named their volume something like '[A-Z]:', but that is not foolproof.

Is there any setting in OpenStack/KVM/QEMU that could give extra clues?

2020-07-08 07:28:59 -0500 问了问题 Can you use a hostname instead of an IP address in devstack?

I would like the public endpoints created by running ./stack.sh to contain a hostname instead of the IP address of the VM on which the devstack is running. That way I could develop the clients and Horizon locally by resolving the hostname to the public IP address of the VM. However, when I try to do that by setting:

HOST_IP=192.168.1.55
SERVICE_HOST=devstack-host

The endpoints will be as I want them to be, but then the etcd service doesn't start because that expects an IP address:

etcdmain: error verifying flags, expected IP in URL for binding (http://devstack-host:2379). See 'etcd --help'

Is there any way a setup like this is possible by changing the configuration of the devstack?

@Francewhoa thanks for the suggestion! It looks like Raksha is very much undeveloped these dates. What I understand from the Trilio site that Trilio grew out of Raksha. "Murali Balcha and some colleagues created the Raksha project, which focused on providing non-disruptive and scalable data protect"

What I can't find is how I would do this in Python. Would that be possible?

Ok, it's hard to give a definitive answer because there is a lot of variation in network setups in OpenStack. I would suggest running tcpdump close to the gateway to your external network and than move closer to the instance. See where it stops.

How do you know that some of them are garbage? Can you explain how they ended up on your hypervisor but not in your database?

The 'default' security group in OpenStack does not allow ingress ICPM traffic. You could add an allow for ICPM traffic rule to your security group and check if it works after that.

We are dumping the current metadata structure to have something to restore an environment with, but those dumps can not be easily restored.

I am looking a solution for the following situation. I have created a complex network setup in a project that includes multiple networks, routers, security groups, etc. I am now in a situation where I have to change considerable parts of the setup, but I would like to take a 'snapshot' of the current situation so that I can revert to that situation if things stop working. As long as I have access to the database, this is reasonably straight-forward, but what if I am an end user?

I have looked at the backup solutions provided by Karbor and Freezer and the commercial TrilioVault.Those are interesting for backups on a regular basis, but the problem I want to solve does not require an automated backup.

The OpenStack client allows exporting the contents of a security group or network as json, but as far as I understand, they can not be imported later.

The solution I am leaning towards is suggesting to export a project to a HEAT template using https://opendev.org/x/flame (Flame). This seems like the best solution in theory, but people are reporting different levels of succes using flame for the generation of HEAT templates.

Is there any approach I am overlooking? What, if any, is the solution you would use in this scenario?

2019-11-21 07:50:31 -0500 问了问题 Can I remove a project from a user if the project no longer exists?

I am not sure how we ended up in this situation. A project no longer exists in OpenStack, but there is still a list of users associated with the project. I have tried to remove the project from those users, but get an error because the project doesn't exist:

$ openstack role remove --user <user_id> --project <project_id> admin
No project with a name or ID of '<project_id>' exists.

I have tried $ openstack project purge <project_id>, but that has the same problem.

Anyone knows a solution?
