2015-01-11 22:38:07 -0500 asked a question Problems with connection to ports used by tcp-server

Hi,

I'm running a Fedora 19 instance in openstack with a mysql server on it. In the dashboard I opened tcp port 3306 and it works fine. A Tomcat server on port 8080 works fine too and is accessible from the outside.

Currently I'm using a local java tcp-server which connects to the mysql server, but now I want to transfer the server to the VM. The server should listen on port 8081, so I opened the corresponding inbound and outbound tcp ports. But I'm not able to connect to the server program (even with the simplest java server one can imagine). The connection always times out.

I'm not able to identify what the problem is. For test purposes I already opened the whole tcp port range, but nothing happens. In my local network structure (one server-pc, several client devices) the server\client programs work fine.

I would appreciate some help here.
