SOLVED

The unsupported OS-Type was indeed the error! After changing libvirt_type=qemu inside nova.conf, everything worked! So, for future cases, not only look inside the database, look inside the log as well. Even error messages in foreign languages may cause this error.

Thanks f. your help

Did it and saw this inside nova-compute.log libvirtError: Interner Fehler: Keine unterstützte Architektur für OS-Typ 'hvm' (Which means: Internal error: No supported architecture for OS-Type 'hvm' May this be the real error and the decode error comes from decoding this message?

I added the output of the rpm command. I searched all my settings for non-printable characters but did not find one. Is there a possibility to rise the debug-level to see which string could not be converted?

What do you exactly regard as "non-printable characters" ? Would the umlaut in my surname count as well? Or do you only mean characters like CR, LF, TAB, ... ? I'm not sure what to look for.

I also added the exports to my own user and to the root user.

No change so far. The name of my instance is just "test"

Here the contents of the files:

[root@localhost ~]# cat keystonerc_admin export OS_USERNAME=admin export OS_TENANT_NAME=admin export OS_PASSWORD=a6b590b1831c42a7 export OS_AUTH_URL=http://10.0.0.90:5000/v2.0/ export OS_REGION_NAME=RegionOne export PS1='[\u@\h \W(keystone_admin)]\$ '

The mysql command gives the following:

MariaDB [(none)]> use keystone; Reading table information for completion of table and column names You can turn off this feature to get a quicker startup with -A

2014-12-07 07:53:41 -0600 asked a question 'ascii' codec can't decode byte 0xc3 in position 30: ordinal not in range(128) ERROR WHEN LAUNCHING AN INSTANCE in RDO-Juno

No matter how I configure my Juno Installation that I created using RedHat RDO with packstack --allinone, I always get this pesky error when I am launching an instance:

Fault

Message 'ascii' codec can't decode byte 0xc3 in position 30: ordinal not in range(128) Code 500 Details File "/usr/lib/python2.7/site-packages/nova/compute/manager.py", line 2014, in do_build_and_run_instance filter_properties) File "/usr/lib/python2.7/site-packages/nova/compute/manager.py", line 2149, in _build_and_run_instance instance_uuid=instance.uuid, reason=six.text_type(e))

I am running this in a single VirtualBox image on a MacBook Pro and gave the Box 2 CPUs and 2GB RAM. All services are started and seem to be running.

What can I do?
