Tim, I am using CentOS 7 with Juno. For enabling Federation, I am having troubles setting up Shibboleth. Apparently, official openstack guides are not much helpful for CentOS. Can you point me to some good resources for configuring Shibboleth/OpenID ? Thanks.

2014-05-21 04:06:17 -0500 asked a question No Connectivity between VMs on different compute nodes

My problem is that my VMs on different compute nodes are not communicating with each other (no ICMP/TCP/UDP connectivity). VMs on the same compute node can reach each other. The arp packets is flooded across the data path network but no reply is generated from the destination VM.

I have a multi-node openstack havana deployment as follows:

  1. Controller (eth1=172.17.25.x) & (eth2 = no ip with promiscuous mode on for data traffic)

  2. Compute (eth1=172.17.25.x) & (eth2 = no ip with promiscuous mode on for data traffic)

  3. Compute (eth1=172.17.25.x) & (eth2 = no ip with promiscuous mode on for data traffic)

  4. Compute (eth1=172.17.25.x) & (eth2 = no ip with promiscuous mode on for data traffic)

I have configured two networks:

  1. External (172.17.25.x)

  2. Internal (192.168.1.x)

I have a router which connects these two networks:

  1. Port 1 on external network with ip=172.17.25.x

  2. Port 2 on internal network with ip=192.168.1.1

I have multiple virtual machines running on all the 3 compute nodes on 192.168.1.x network.

Here is what i have done so far to debug the issue: 1. I have verified the bridging information on control and compute nodes

  1. Packets leave the eth2 interface of the source VM's compute node and enter into the eth2 interface of the destination VM's compute node.

  2. The packets are being received by the br-compute and the vlans are also being translated

  3. br-int is not receiving the packets from br-compute and thus VM doesnt reply to the ARP packet.

  4. I have also dumped flows and checked the rules on the bridges and found 1 rule on br-compute which is translating the vlans but no rule on the br-int to re-translate the vlans back. I have added the rule myself but of no avail.

  5. Both the VMs are on the same vlan & physical switch is configured to allow all VLAN traffic on all interfaces

Compute Bridging info:

--> br-int = vm taps + int-br-compute

--> br-compute = eth2 + phy-br-compute

If anyone can help me out with this then that would be great. Thanks.

2014-03-05 00:45:30 -0500 answered a question Is there Packstack uninstall operation

You can remove individual components that are troubling you. Like for instance, if you want a fresh neturon installation than use yum remove openstack-neutron. After that you can re-run packstack, and it will re-install neutron on your machine. You can do this for all openstack services.

For the http 500 error, this represents that the neutron server is not working properly. You might want to re-check the configuration files (.conf) for neutron services. Also sometimes re-installing fixes this issue. Hope this helps.

2014-02-24 00:36:17 -0500 answered a question How to get DevStack VMs to access the internet

There are a couple of things you need to do in order to get internet access on the instances.

Firstly, starting from the basics, your br-ex should include the physical ethernet port used for connecting to the ethernet. Use the br-ex to get IP from the local lan (assuming 192.168.1.x) network. Your br-int should be responsible for handing out IPs to the virtual machines 10.x.x.x network.

Secondly, create a router in neutron with one port with IP 10.0.0.1 connected to the 10.x.x.x network and other port connected to the local lan side with gateway ip set to the actual ip of the lan network gateway (192.168.1.1).

Thirdly, configure your floating ip pool to assign IP addresses from the local lan IP Range (192.168.1.x in this example). Associate the floating IP to the instance and you should get the internet connectivity.

Hope this helps for all of you. If you still get stuck than provide more details from your setup for debugging and troubleshooting.

2014-02-23 22:44:40 -0500 answered a question system logs out during the installation of devstack

Does stack.sh.log file show any errors just before the system logs out? Try looking into the step that was performed last just before your system logs out. There can be a mis-configuration in the host that conflicts with the stack.sh script.

2013-08-30 06:30:04 -0500 asked a question Quantum server and client not communicating with each other?

I have three questions as below:

  1. It seems that the quantum server and client are not communicating with each other. both server and client are on different systems. Control Node has the quantum server and the compute node has the quantum client.

  2. I am not able to ping VMs from console or other VMs. i have successfully created the network, subnet and the router. Do i need to manually add bridges to the OVS ?

  3. Is the control-compute node communication channel same as that of the quantum service channel.

Any help in this regard would be wonderful. Thanks.

If you don't want much hassle. You can always work around this problem by using the counterpart "http connection commands" instead of https and it will work fine for you.

Theoretically, you can do that and Openstack should run without any error.

2013-07-29 18:13:47 -0500 answered a question Error while installing devstack on Ubuntu 12.04

If you are behind a network having Proxies, you might want to manually set up proxy for both http and https (export http_proxy=http://a.b.c.d:8080). also make sure to have sufficient sudo/root privileges while running Devstack (may be run $ sudo ./stack.sh or in root mode #./stack.sh). Hope it Helps.

Dear All,

I installed Openstack(devstack) on ubuntu 12.04LTS, before running ./stack.sh, i modified localrc to include all components including Neutron (Quantum). after running ./stack.sh and opening the Horizon Dashboard via web browser i am unable to see the "Networks" tab on the left task bar. What could be the reason?

2013-07-14 23:21:51 -0500 asked a question Network Diagram/Topology in Openstack

Dear All,

Is there any way to get Network wide diagram or Topology for the network managed by Openstack? Hardware nodes including Routers, switches, middle boxes and Software entities including Network Operating systems, Virtual Switches (Like OVS).

Does Neutron provide any sort of functionality to achieve this goal ?

Thanking you in advance.
