2014-12-04 12:39:14 -0500 asked a question neutron networking with xenserver6.2 as compute node

In the hypervisor support matrix, is saids xenserver can be used as compute node. But in neutron plugin matrix support matrix as follows.

http://docs.openstack.org/admin-guide-cloud/content/section_plugin-arch.html

The are only one plugin can be used for xenxerver for juno. What is the recomendation network for xenserver6.2 compute node? Does this mean we can not use neutron networking but to use nova-network if we choose xenserver 6.2?

2014-12-04 11:39:23 -0500 answered a question How to configure Neutron with XenServer

I am also trying to find some official documentation add one compute node as xen-server into openstack juno version. I have already installed openstack with neutron as the networking but I am only using KVM now. In the administration documentation of openstack, it says many neutron plungis only support KVM. http://docs.openstack.org/admin-guide-cloud/content/section_plugin-arch.html (http://docs.openstack.org/admin-guide...)

2014-11-27 19:01:04 -0500 answered a question 'neutron agent-list' show nothing

My issue is solved with removing rpc_backend = rabbit from /etc/neutron/neutron.conf in my network node. I suspect this may be the bug of the installation manual. I will report it and confirm whether we need update the installation manual. Also this issue is discussed here https://bugs.launchpad.net/openstack-manuals/+bug/1320451 (https://bugs.launchpad.net/openstack-...)

Could you please share how you solve this issue? I met the same issue. I installed pyrabbit as pip install pyrabbit. But there still the log shows no rabbit module. Also It is the same when I use python CLI as import rabbit

Thanks, I will make a reference for that thread also. But I have a question that whethere I need also need the message broker service into network node or not? Currently, I did not install rabbit server into network node nor compute nodes.

I am installing openstack juno according to the install guide of http://docs.openstack.org/juno/install-guide/install/apt/content/neutron-network-node.html (http://docs.openstack.org/juno/instal...)

After I installed neutron into network node, and trying to do the verification, but I can not get any output with the command of 'neutron agent-list' from controller node. There are some error in the network node for some agents as follows.

root@network:~# tail /var/log/neutron/openvswitch-agent.log

Here "No module named rabbit" is shown, but I checked the configuration file in /etc/neutron/*.conf and *.ini, which are just the same as the installattion guide.

Also from the controller side, there are some error for sql as follows.

Thanks for the answer. It work now with adding "#apt-get install -y software-properties-common".

2014-11-25 00:55:21 -0500 asked a question OpenStack juno packages for ubuntu 14.04

In the install guide for ubuntu 14.04, http://docs.openstack.org/juno/install-guide/install/apt/content/ch_basic_environment.html#basics-packages (http://docs.openstack.org/juno/instal...)

I have several questions which are not clarified int eh documentation.

  1. Do this package configuration necessary for all nodes, or it is only for controller node? At least, I think the following database and message server are just for controller node. So I am confused whether other nodes(compute and network) need the package repository configration as the documentation mentioned.

  2. "# add-apt-repository cloud-archive:juno" is buggy as mentioned in other threads. I am using add-apt-repository pap:ubuntu-cloud-archive/juno-staging as the workgroup. Is there any other good advice for this if I want to install juno for ubuntu 14.04?

Thanks,

Thanks for detailed reply. I am still confused for network node, do I need 3 physical NICs for for management, tunnel and external network? How do I need configure them in Switch side?

Is there any advice if I want to install controller+ network(neutron) into one node, and compute into other nodes. Actually, I want to have a test how juno can support xen server and kvm in one openstack cluster

2014-11-22 01:51:54 -0500 asked a question make controller and network be one node

Now I am trying to install juno from scratch into ubuntu 14.04 server. I am referring to http://docs.openstack.org/juno/install-guide/install/apt/content/ch_basic_environment.html#basics-prerequisites (http://docs.openstack.org/juno/instal...) About the network interface for each node, I have some questions.

  • Can I make controller and network be one node, because I want to use neutron as network component? Do I need have 2 physical NICs for controller or just 1 NIC?
  • I am considering configure my /etc/network/interfaces as follows. It this correct?

  • Controller + network node (1physical NIC)

    /etc/network/interfaces

iface eth0 inet static
        address 10.0.0.11
        netmask 255.255.255.0
        gateway 10.0.0.1
iface eth1 inet static
        address 10.0.1.11
        netmask 255.255.255.0
iface eth2 inet manual
up ip link set dev $IFACE up
down ip link set dev $IFACE down
  • compute node (1 physical NIC)

/etc/network/interfaces

iface eth0 inet static
   address 10.0.0.12
   netmask 255.255.255.0
   gateway 10.0.0.1
iface eth1 inet static
  address 10.0.1.12
  netmask 255.255.255.0

thanks
