2014-12-17 10:45:20 -0500 asked a question Devstack Compute wget issue

Hi,

I am trying to run a multi-node devstack setup, where I am launching instances on the compute. I can ping the external world (internet) from the instance launched on the compute node, but i cannot use "wget", it gets stuck in connecting state.

However, I tried launching an instance on the controller node, and everything works including ping and wget.

I tried to reduce the MTU size from 1500 to 1400 as I read it from one of the forum, but it did not help either. I am attaching my localrc for both controller and compute below.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance!

2014-11-05 13:01:34 -0500 asked a question Error in launching an instance in Compute Node

Hi,

I am running a Multinode Devstack, with one Controller Node and one Compute Node. Our setup is like:

  1. 1 hp laptop acting as a controller node (With no VM's)
  2. 1 hp laptop acting as a compute node (With no VM's, devstack directly installed on the computer)
  3. A router to connect the controller and the compute node ( assigned an ip on eth0 of both laptops and connected them via a router, acting as a switch).

After running ./stack.sh, and sourcing the openrc file, when I run

Nova hypervisor-list

I see both the control and compute node like this:

  +----+---------------------+-------+--------+
| ID | Hypervisor hostname | State | Status |
+----+---------------------+-------+--------+
| 1 | sak | | |
| 2 | ganapathy | | |
+----+---------------------+-------+--------+

But I launch an instance on the Compute node, it goes into the error state. The erorr is:

{"message": "too many values to unpack | | Traceback (most recent call last): }

And when i launch the instance on controller node, everything works smoothly! I am using the following command;

nova boot --flavor m1.tiny --image $(nova image-list | grep $IMAGE'\s' | awk '{print $2}') --nic net-id=$(neutron net-list | grep private | awk '{print $2}') host1 --availability_zone=nova:ganapathy

Can anyone please help me with it? Any help will be appreciated

2014-10-08 07:32:33 -0500 asked a question How to visualize the whole OpenStack topology on ODL GUI with links?

Hello,

I am running one controller and one compute node. Controller node is running both ODL and OpenStack. I created tenants, underthem i created networks and launched instances on them. All is see on ODL web GUI is 3 swithces, and I guess those are br-int and br-ex of controller and br-int of compute and the links are missing too. Is there anyway where I can see my whole OpenStack topology on ODL GUI with the links?

Please help me

2014-10-02 14:02:41 -0500 asked a question Openstack + Opendaylight + Mininet

I am working on SDN + NFV. I am successfully able to interface ODL and Mininet via Openflow and can see the mininet topology on OpenDayLight controller.

I now want to connect ODL with OpenStack and want to forward packets from the mininet to Openstack, so that openstack would act as a controller and run various networking functions (like VPN, Firewall, etc).

Now I am confused on how the integration works, I have followed Madhu's and Brents tutorials on ODL+Openstack integration from networkstatic blog, but still I dont understand how the communication actually works, how does the packets flow to ODL and how does they come back. I know there is neutron ML2 plugin which does it.

So can anyone help me with it? I mean do i have to write another plugin if I want to take a packet from mininet -> ODL -> OpenStack and back?

2014-10-01 14:30:17 -0500 asked a question No br-int for compute node

I have one controller node and one compute node

  • Controller node has: ODL + Openstack
  • Compute node: Openstack

So when i run stack.sh in both node, and after the completing, I dont get br-int for my compute node. When i do

sudo ovs-vsctl show

on compute node, this is all I get:

*17074e89-2ac5-4bba-997a-1a5a3527cf56

Manager "tcp:192.168.56.101:6640"

is_connected: true

ovs_version: "2.0.0"*

192.168.56.101 is the ip of my controller node (Host only, eth1) No br-int shows here. Can anyone know what the problem is?

2014-09-28 10:49:31 -0500 asked a question Virtual Tenant Network

I have some confusions about the concept of virtual Tenant Network. As far as I understand: Virtual Tenant Network is a set of Virtual Instances launched in a private Network (in Openstack) in a single compute node or distributed among different compute nodes.

For example if i create a network using:

neutron subnet-create internal_network --name internal_subnet --allocation-pool start=10.10.1.2,end=10.10.1.20 --disable-dhcp --gateway 10.10.1.1 10.10.1.0/24

and then launch VM's on it, so technically is it one Virtual Tenant Network?

2014-09-26 13:57:10 -0500 asked a question STACK.SH ERROR 388

I am running a compute node on VMware with Bridged settings, and the controller node is running on a separate physical machine with a Bridged interface (as my machine didnot have enough RAM). So when I update my local.conf and pointed the controller to the other machine, and ran

./stack.sh

and I got this error :

388 Failure creating ROUTER_ID for 5add61a151004810b54c1409c5e0584c router1

Can anyone guide me please?

Thanks you Larsks. Your answer was really helpful. Actually I am trying to isolate two the traffic from two companies and provide them basic services likes Routing-NAT, Firewall, Loadbalancer and VPN.

Hello,

I am fairly new to the OpenStack, and am trying to set up a simple network using Neutron. I dont understand the difference between a controller node and a compute node. Can anyone please help me out with this?

1) What is the function of both?

2) Do we always need both of them?

Thanking in anticipation.

2014-09-23 16:09:58 -0500 asked a question Port Status is always DOWN

Hello,

I am new fairly to OpenStack, i made a simple private network, attached one instance to it, and connected it to the external network using one router, but the status of all the ports is always DOWN. For the same reason I cannot ping or use ssh as well. I tried doing this:

$ neutron port-update <portid> --status ACTIVE

But it gave an error: Cannot update read-only attribute status

Can anyone please tell me a command to make the status of the port ACTIVE, I have been struggling with it since yesterday.

2014-09-23 11:09:23 -0500 marked best answer Routing and NAT configuration in OpenStack

I want to configure routing and NAT via Neutron in OpenStack, How do I get started with it? I have created a network with two internal networks (and instances on them as well). Now I want to know the commands for configuring routing protocols and NAT. I checked OpenStack documentation but could not find anything handy. Can someone please help me or give me an idea on how to get started with it?

I have already done that, I thought there is more to it. Well that was an easy task. Thanks a ton Larsks :)
