2017-10-17 15:34:44 -0500 asked a question personality - Config_drive - files size too big

I am using openstack nova personality feature to pass some files to guest VMs. This is with the help of config_drive mechanism of openstack.

But one of my files size is around 1MB, and when I try to execute the nova boot command, i get "OverLimit: Over limit (HTTP 413)"

Upon debug mode, I see this

DEBUG (session:215) RESP: [413] Date: Tue, 17 Oct 2017 13:55:38 GMT Content-Length: 56 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=UTF-8 X-Compute-Request-Id: req-7e2cbbc6-33b4-4878-bbc5-d3cf0f1bf005 RESP BODY: 413 Request Entity Too Large

Request is too large.

I have already increased the openstack default quota file size, but still seeing the same error.

Any idea?

2017-09-04 23:10:39 -0500 marked best answer How to figure out which type of virtual nic is used by VM either virtio or e1000?

I am using icehouse based stable devstack setup. I am using Horizon for launching my VM's. I would like to know a way from where I can find out which type of virtual nic my vm's are using.

Either they are using "virtio" or "e1000" ? Also, how to change from one to other.

Hi, I have similar problem but with little more added complexity. Is there a way, I can add two types of protocol under rules, for example I want to add something like

    protocol: ip
    port_range_min: 500
    port_range_max: 500
2016-09-20 05:11:40 -0500 asked a question Use repeat along with other static networks

Hi All,

I have a use case, where I want to attach 2 pre-defined(static) networks in addition couple of dynamic networks. For creating a list of dynamic networks, I am using the repeat function, which is working fine.

But, I am struggling to add static networks along with repeat function, something like below

    flavor: {get_param: linux_flav}
    image: {get_param: linux_img}
        template: "Instance_%proj%-%ident%_fpc%id%"
          '%proj%': {get_param: project_name}
          '%ident%': {get_param: stack_name}
          '%id%': {get_param: id}
          - port: {get_attr: [fpc_fixed_network, external_port]}
          - port: {get_attr: [fpc_fixed_network, internal_port]}
          <%ports%>: { get_param: all_ports }
          - port: <%ports%>
  type: OS::Nova::Servee

Is it possible ? Is my syntax correct? if not, do we have any work-around to achieve the same results?

Thanks Pratik

2016-02-27 07:18:41 -0500 asked a question Vlan Tenant network

I would like to to know that is it possible in openstack to configure vlan network for communication between two VM's data plane nic cards? If yes, can someone please share the configurations and steps ?

More details : I am trying to launch VM's with 3 nics ( eth0-2), and i want eth0 to come from a mgmt network, which i have configured as flat type and I want other two interfaces ( i.e. eth1 and eth2 , which i will be using for communication between VM instances) to use vlan type network.

2016-02-25 05:57:00 -0500 asked a question NovaException: Unexpected vif_type=binding_failed

I am running canonical distro for Kilo release. I am using Neutron OVS as networking component. I am trying to launch VM with SR-IOV nic cards.

I am able to do this successfully, but on one of the nodes, my VM deployment is always failing. When I checked nova logs, i am seeing

NovaException: Unexpected vif_type=binding_failed

And my neutron/openvswitch-agent.log is consistently printing

2016-02-25 03:39:44.434 4226 INFO neutron.plugins.openvswitch.agent.ovs_neutron_agent [req-4d87f63e-8c7a-4f62-889a-1898c579df7c ] Agent tunnel out of sync with plugin!

Any idea, what could be the issue

2016-02-21 12:32:12 -0500 asked a question Nova-scheduler always uses default filters

I am trying to change nova-scheduler filter details in /etc/nova/nova.conf on controller node ( where nova-scheduler service is running), and restart scheduler service. But, i am seeing the logs that it is still using the set of default schedulers.

For ex, default filters come up with below filters

But, when I change and make it as below, It still keeps on using, "ComputeCapabilitiesFilter".

Any idea, what could be the issue ?

Thanks much, it worked.

Can you tell me, how to make it work without netns command, I mean, is there anyway that we can just give "ping <private_ip_address>" and it works ?

2014-11-11 07:36:06 -0500 asked a question Not able to ping private IP

Hi ,

I have a single node ice-house setup. When I try to bring up a VM, my cirros VM came up completely fine. I have also attached a floating-ip to my VM.

When I am trying to ping VM from my node, I am able to ping to floating-ip but not able to ping to private-ip of VM. I have checked inside the VM, and my private IP is correctly configured on VM's nic.

Any suggestions what can i check ?

Thanks Prat

2014-10-08 23:58:54 -0500 asked a question Master icehouse branch giving errors " No host found"

I am having single node setup, which is devstack based. I want to use master ice-house branch. After the successful installation of devstack, when I try to launch an instance, i am seeing "No host found" error on horizon.

Also, when I am trying to execute "nova hypervisor-list" command, I am seeing this error. "The server could not comply with the request since it is either malformed or otherwise incorrect. (HTTP 400)"

Can any one please help me in figuring out the issue or If I am missing on something?

Hi, In your example, you are using nwfilter to deal with ip-spoofing. But in my devstack based stable ice-house, I couldn't find out "nova-base" nwfilter. I did a bit of googling and found out, security-group features has implemented in iptables by default Can you give similar method for iptable.
