2014-07-03 02:44:23 -0500 asked a question HP drivers for proliants on ubuntu?

I have a g6 proliant. When I got it, I had a hell of a time installing linux systems other than redhat/suse distributions because HP only offered drivers for Enterprise operating systems.

I see that HP Helion is only supported with ubuntu.

For example, let's look at the DL320e gen8 server. On HP's support website for this server, (

it only shows available drivers for ubuntu 12.04 and 12.10. But the community edition requires either ubuntu 13.10 or 14.04. And if you look closer at the drivers available for 12.04 and 12.10, you'll see that HP only provides drivers for ubuntu for the IO accelerator. So, if I buy this sweet server with a 656596-B21 (10G2p 530T NIC), where do I get the drivers for it?

When I go to the driver download HP site to get drivers for this specific IO card (

all I see for linux is redhat and suse as options for drivers.

I find this ironic given that HP Helion requires a 10G NIC.

While I'd like to play with HP Helion at home, I'm daunted by the fact that HP doesn't seem to offer IO drivers for 10G cards for the ubuntu operating system.

Please clarify where I can get IO drivers for HP Proliants that are supported on Ubuntu.

Back when I got my g6 server, I had to go get a cheap intel networking card, simply to enable networking on the server, and then I had to use Alien to install the drivers. These days, I just stick with Centos, but Centos isn't supported with Helion. So, I'm wondering what everyone is using for IO drivers for Ubuntu with HP Helion.
