2015-01-22 04:33:19 -0500 commented answer API for releasing a floating IP from a network!

So you mean each time we allocate an IP to a pool, openstack will careated a IP and assign to that pool. And save it in neutron DB, we can only deallocate or remove this floating IP from the current instance but we cannot release this floating IP via API. Just only way remove this from neutron DB?

2015-01-22 03:22:26 -0500 asked a question API for releasing a floating IP from a network!

Dear All,

I read API for Openstack here: link text I just only see the API for:

1. Allocate floating IP
2. Show floating IP information
3. Deallocate floating IP
4. Adds a floating IP address to an instance
5. Removes a floating IP from an instance.

So that I can do it well by CLI, but now I want to release a floating IP from a network like dashboard already do it. Below is picture that dashboard already do. image description

How can I do? Which API I can do? Please help me. Thanks you so much

2014-11-21 01:32:37 -0500 marked best answer Problem with getting a token in keystone

I am deploying keystone from the source code. After running keystone by the command : "tools/with_venv.sh bin/keystone-all". I want to get a token following the example at openstack document site: I am using the command from Keystone API curl examples

curl -i \
  -H "Content-Type: application/json" \
  -d '
{ "auth": {
    "identity": {
      "methods": ["password"],
      "password": {
        "user": {
          "name": "admin",
          "domain": { "id": "default" },
          "password": "adminpwd"
        }
      }
    }
  }
}' \
  http://localhost:5000/v3/auth/tokens ; echo

But my result is :

HTTP/1.1 401 Unauthorized
Www-Authenticate: Keystone uri="http://localhost:5000"
Vary: X-Auth-Token
Content-Type: application/json
Content-Length: 114
Date: Mon, 07 Jul 2014 09:54:18 GMT
{"error": {"message": "The request you have made requires authentication.", "code": 401, "title": "Unauthorized"}}

I dont know why? Maybe the password for admin is not correct? How can i change the password...?

2014-10-30 21:23:08 -0500 commented answer How can I restore/backup from VolumeSnapshot?

But in this way i cannot because dont have snapshot instance. Now I've found another way to backup is not from snapshot. I can do it by backup instance directly, actually it's not appear in dashboard. But Openstack have API to do this. Thanks you for your help!

Thanks you for your reply. I dont quite understand about "instead of launching a new instance from a new snapshot, I could simply generate the diff and apply the delta" My purpose is how to restore from an instance. because last time i boot from image so that I can restore bythe way rebuild snapshot

Dear All,

Last time i created instance by the way boot from image so that each time I create a snapshot from this instance, it's will create a snapshot with type "snapshot". So that I can restore instance by the way rebuild from this snapshot. But now I am using CEPH as storage backend so all of instance that I created will booted from the volume, so that each time i create a snapshot from this instance, it will create a volume snapshot. How can i restore from this volume snapshot (like rebuild) without create a new one instance and boot from volume snapshot???

Thanks you so much

2014-10-22 15:19:13 -0500 marked best answer Problem with JClouds

Dear All, I've tried to connect to OpenStack by JCloud. I have the code below - can someone tell me the cause of the error?

  public JCloudsNova() {

        Iterable<Module> modules = ImmutableSet.<Module>of(new SLF4JLoggingModule());
        String provider = "openstack-nova";
        String identity = "demo:demo"; // tenantName:userName
        String credential = "nova";
        String enpoint="http://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:5000/v2.0/";

        novaApi = ContextBuilder.newBuilder(provider)
                .endpoint(enpoint)
                .credentials(identity, credential)
                .modules(modules)
                .buildApi(NovaApi.class);
        zones = novaApi.getConfiguredZones();
    }
