2015-02-19 13:01:22 -0500 asked a question Cannot get a functional CentOS image, ever

I'm on the verge of hair-pulling... despite having very successfully deployed Ubuntu to my OpenStack environment I cannot, for the life of me, get CentOS working. I've tried every single pre-built image I've ever found, including all the official ones from the CentOS website, I've tried building my own following every tutorial I've ever found, and every single one fails.

Among the many tutorials I've tried: -http://docs.openstack.org/image-guide/content/centos-image.html -http://docs.openstack.org/image-guide/content/ch_openstack_images.html -http://thornelabs.net/2014/09/24/create-a-kvm-based-centos-6-openstack-cloud-image.html

Cloud-init almost never works, it usually fails with a giant string of "url_helper.py[WARNING]: Calling 'http://10.0.0.5//latest/meta-data/instance-id' failed [0/120s]: unexpected error ['ConnectionError' object has no attribute 'response']" errors. It almost never ends up with my keypair successfully imported. And when it does, it won't work and it will bug me for a password, even though it's supposed to be set up to use keypair instead!

I've never, ever, EVER had disk resize ever work, either. It always ends up with the same disk size I use during the initial setup, it never resizes to match the flavor.

What is going wrong here? Has anyone EVER gotten a functional CentOS image going, and HOW?

This method doesn't seem to work. The password is not printed to the log at all.

Issue now resolved. Was caused by issues relating to our highly complex network security system.

Already did that, and I verified via nova secgroup-list-rules that it worked, and still can't ping or SSH.

Added those two rules, and it did not fix the problem. Nothing changed.

I cannot for the life of me get nova-network configured properly. I've spent hours googling everything and trying every guide I've found but I still have this very frustrating problem:

I can spin up a node fine, and it gets assigned three IP addresses. But if I try to ping or ssh ANY of them, from any computer including the compute node itself, it fails, with 'Destination host unreachable'.

This is a test instance, so I have a single compute node that I'm running instances on. I've attempted ping & SSH from both the compute node as well as a another computer on the same local network, and both fail.
