2015-10-07 12:32:36 -0500 asked a question heat minimum number of instances and autoscaling

hi,

I have a heat script that implements an auto scaling group. I have defined a minimum of two instances and a maximum of five. After the stack is deployed I have two instances. When I put one instance unnder load I see the number of VMs increase to five. I have a few questions about the results I got with some test that are not what I expected;

  1. After the deployment I delete (not stop, but delete) one instance. I expected the heat script to create a new Vm since I specified a minimum number of two. It does not.

  2. After putting one under load I got five VMs. The four machines not having any load are under the threshold i defined to scale down. The system starts to scale down and eliminates four VMs. Two things are strange here:

  3. I expected only three since my minimum specified was two, and more surprising
  4. the VM under load got killed, I end up with a VM that does not have any load.

Anyone to comment on this. My openstack version is juno and there is no loadbalances between the VMs.

Tnx in advance for any answers.

2014-03-17 08:16:42 -0500 asked a question after login to the openstack GUI I get an error

after a succesful login to the dashboard this is what I get:

Something went wrong!

An unexpected error has occurred. Try refreshing the page. If that doesn't help, contact your local administrator.

How to proceed with such an error message? I checked the httpd logs but nothing particular to find there.

Tnx for all answers

2014-03-13 10:04:02 -0500 asked a question packstack --allinone

HI,

I thought I posted this already but can't find it back in the forum????

the first install on a fresh rh 6.4 ends with the following error: ERROR : Error appeared during Puppet run: 10.166.125.20_ceilometer.pp err: /Stage[main]/Ceilometer::Api/Package[ceilometer-api]/ensure: change from absent to present failed: Execution of '/usr/bin/yum -d 0 -e 0 -y install openstack-ceilometer-api'

After having manually installed all the required python packages the second run now stopped at a point where there was no problem during the first run:

ERROR : Error appeared during Puppet run: 10.166.125.20_keystone.pp err: /Stage[main]/Neutron::Keystone::Auth/Keystone_user[neutron]: Could not evaluate: Execution of '/usr/bin/keystone --os-auth-url http://127.0.0.1:35357/v2.0/ token-get' returned 1: The request you have made requires authentication. (HTTP 401)

Is there a way to get over this? What commands are needed to reverse to the state before the first run?

tnx in advance for all replies.

2014-03-13 07:22:07 -0500 asked a question packstack install errors

Running packstack --allinone on a freshly installed RH 6.4 ends with:

ERROR : Error appeared during Puppet run: 10.166.125.20_ceilometer.pp err: /Stage[main]/Ceilometer::Api/Package[ceilometer-api]/ensure: change from absent to present failed: Execution of '/usr/bin/yum -d 0 -e 0 -y install openstack-ceilometer-api' returned 1: Error: Package: 1:python-flask-0.9-5.el6.noarch (epel)

I manually installed python-flask-0.9-5.el6.noarch and reran packstack -aalinone. Now it stops at a point where the first run was not a problem:

ERROR : Error appeared during Puppet run: 10.166.125.20_keystone.pp err: /Stage[main]/Neutron::Keystone::Auth/Keystone_user[neutron]: Could not evaluate: Execution of '/usr/bin/keystone --os-auth-url http://127.0.0.1:35357/v2.0/ token-get' returned 1: The request you have made requires authentication. (HTTP 401) You will find full trace in log /var/tmp/packstack/20140313-113220-XNECDh/manifests/10.166.125.20_keystone.pp.log

How to get over this and is there a procedure to cleanup leftovers from a previous attempt?

Tnx in advance for all replies.
