2013-09-18 13:29:58 -0500 answered a question what is the prerequisite for multinode cinder

I believe you are able to create the volume successfully from other node or controller node where u have cinder installed.

when u tryin to create on newly created not u are seeing this problem " ERROR [cinder.scheduler.manager] Failed to schedule_create_volume: No valid host was found."

No valid host -Though its listing in host list of cinder, its not successfully register.

check all the settings properly.

esp- NTP

2013-05-31 17:04:34 -0500 answered a question nova never delete records in mysql

No only nova, all the openstack stack components services behave in the same way.

Its not a bug, its a actual behavior of openstack WRT mysql.

2013-05-31 16:40:44 -0500 answered a question Unable to create volume using cinder-volume on a separate node without public url

Have a look at this link https://answers.launchpad.net/cinder/+question/226003 (https://answers.launchpad.net/cinder/...) ,

  1. whether your nodes are in sync ?
  2. whether you able to see the cinder host from the cinder-manage host list command.

Please do share cinder-scheduler log for more info

2013-05-23 16:54:40 -0500 answered a question Do I need Create the LVM Physical Volume and Logical Volume?

Yes, you need to create physical volumes if you want to do with LVM.

  1. create PV
  2. create VG

before creating the cinder volumes

2013-05-23 16:47:21 -0500 answered a question Error with more than one cinder-volume

Ensure you receive the update from cinder-volume service of each node to cinder-scheduler log and check the volume and scheduler log for more information.

share the logs & conf file to help you more.

2013-05-14 09:03:24 -0500 answered a question How can i get the "location" of the volume created

If you are provisioning the LVm volume, below mentioned is best way for you

You can find information in "cinder-scheduler log"

  1. Filtered host will give you information

---> [host 'grzrc3@driver-2': free_capacity_gb: 54]

PS: I your case, u need to get all the host in above filter.

  1. Choosing Weighedhost will choose the best host for provision volume

---> Choosing WeighedHost [host: grzrc3@driver-2, weight: 54.0]

2013-05-14 09:56:17 DEBUG [cinder.scheduler.filter_scheduler] Filtered [host 'grzrc3@driver-2': free_capacity_gb: 54] 2013-05-14 09:56:17 DEBUG [cinder.scheduler.filter_scheduler] Choosing WeighedHost [host: grzrc3@driver-2, weight: 54.0]

If you are running cinder services in different system, ensure both the system time are in sync. Even the small time diff can leads to this problem.

Are you able to see the cinder host using "cinder-manage host list".

then check the database for services.

Hope this could resolve the problem

Have you resolved the issue "NoValidHost: No valid host was found. Is the appropriate service running?"

2013-05-03 15:17:30 -0500 answered a question No notifier for create/destroy of volumeType and create/update/delete of VolumeTypeExtraSpecTemplate

yes, coz of this volume-type associated with volume getting deleted without any notification.

I have raised the bug for the same.

  1. You can check the session environment variables using "env" comand in terminal, there you can see what are proxy is said.

If you have proxy set, then cinder looks for that particular proxy, so you need to unset all the proxy to get cinder from keystone

Hope this would resolve the issue.

2013-05-03 05:08:44 -0500 answered a question cinder list/ cinder create Error
  1. Ensure your cinder service is running by checking the process list "ps -ef | grep cinder".

  2. Unset the proxy you have for the session or for entire bash using "unset http_proxy"

2013-04-29 11:05:21 -0500 answered a question Volume creation error for 3PAR and LHN using Volume TYPE

Its a problem with volume_backend_name for each storage, use the backend specified in scheduler log!!!!!

This will resolve the problem.

Backend name has been hardcoded!!!!

2013-04-29 07:02:04 -0500 answered a question how to instruct hypervisor to use SAN storage to create a volume specified in a flavor

Do don't want to specify anything in nova.conf !!!!!

If u want to use the SAN for your Openstack environment, use the multiback driver and do the respective changes in the cinder.conf

http://docs.openstack.org/trunk/openstack-block-storage/admin/content/multi_backend.html (http://docs.openstack.org/trunk/opens...)

And can we say that the ephemeral disk used to store root file system of the VM OS? Yes, its for root FS.. You can ensure by creating the instance with different flavor types.

Issues was very simple, i dint have the timesync in both the nodes!!!!

That's why it could not find the second server services.

2013-04-26 12:10:17 -0500 asked a question cinder DB not clearing out even after the deletion of volumes

Hi,

I'm using openstack grizzly with MYSQL DB.

I have clean out all the volumes created upto now in cinder and cinder list shows empty.

root@grzrc3:~# cinder list root@grzrc3:~# root@grzrc3:~#

where in cinder DB, all the volumes that i have created upto now its available with status deleted.

So, I believe the DB grows everytime when i create anything.

how can I clear the DB when im deleting cinder volume

2013-04-26 12:04:50 -0500 answered a question how to instruct hypervisor to use SAN storage to create a volume specified in a flavor

openstack flavors contains only ephemeral disk (non-persistent storage and OS partitioned disk)

where cinder as its external storage, its can be linked with flavors.

I believe its taking from nova, where nova talks to internal storage and takes the disk space for OS image.

Thanks for your resposne on multiback end drivers.

We have multiback end enabled and its working !!!! now we want to expand the backend to individual system !!!

It means each cinder to point only one backend!!!!

So as per your setup, you have two cinder scheduler (one in controller node and other on new node).. when I serve a request from horizon how it goes to 2 schedulers and where it create the volumes?
