2013-07-18 16:59:32 -0500 answered a question Instance can't access metadata

Patrick,

I'm running into a similar issue, grizzly+quantum(multinode). Can you give some more detail as to what you did to get it working? I'm still researching elsewhere, if I find a solution I will post back as well for the public.

2013-01-09 14:53:23 -0500 asked a question Tun/Tap Support

Hello,

Every now and then I have a VPS user that will come along and ask if Openstack support Tun/Tap. Does anyone know if this is supported? I can't find anything so I would assume now.

2012-10-05 15:51:18 -0500 answered a question Which instance is causing high load

I'm using kvm, virt-top was perfect. just what I was looking for. For others looking at this in the future apt-get install -y virt-top

easy peasy.

2012-10-04 16:21:56 -0500 asked a question Which instance is causing high load

I'm running into a problem where my compute node is showing a high load. I'm trying to determine which instance is causing this, any ideas? I will try to suspend each node one at a time to see if it drops off, however I'm wondering if there is a smarter way. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

2012-08-09 20:08:56 -0500 asked a question Image Resizing for Windows

Hello everyone,

Is it possible to resize a windows image? Right now I have my images as 25GB c:\ and adding ephemeral disks for added space. I have a case where c:\ need to be larger. I was wondering if anyone tested this and if they can provide docs on how to do this.

2012-07-15 09:23:41 -0500 asked a question CPU and Instance Limit

All,

I have a question about the number of instances that can be created based on the compute nodes available cpu/memory . Is there any over provisioning? Or will the compute node stop adding instances once the memory or cpu limit has been reached.

2012-07-03 14:41:33 -0500 asked a question Multiple Compute Nodes - Design

Hello,

I have a few standalone Openstack servers and I'd like to take it to the next level. For instance setting up 1-2 servers to manage glance, networking, keystone and start to add compute nodes as the demand increases. I'm having a hard time finding a good design doc or best practices. Can someone point me in the direction of a design guide or doc on how to do so. Thanks in advance.

2012-07-03 12:56:50 -0500 asked a question Windows instance password generation

Hello All,

I recently added MS Windows 2k8 to my openstack servers. Has anyone had any experience with generating random passwords for the admin users? Right now I set a default password and the 'administrator' is required to change the password on first login. I'm wondering if there is a better way.

Jay,

If I wanted to debug this issue, which log file should I be checking? I was looking through all the nova/glance logs and I don't see any errors.

2012-06-12 13:22:14 -0500 answered a question Centos Cloud Install

Jay,

Is there a rule of thumb for how big to make the /tmp partition? I don't know if it needs to be relative to size of the instance.

2012-06-11 19:28:51 -0500 asked a question Centos Cloud Install

I'm having an issue with a centos 6 base image that I built out for openstack. I used KVM cli and vnc to mount an centos6 iso, install OS, ran updates, etc. I set the '/' partition to low, only a couple of GB. When I try to spawn an instance using flavors, the instance doesn't seem to be resizing to match the size configured in the flavor. I'm currently using the Ubuntu cloud images and they seem to be working perfect when it comes to resizing to match the flavor. Is there anything special that I need to do with Centos? I tried two different methods, centos with logical volumes and without. Neither seemed to work. Any info you have will be helpful.

2012-06-11 15:27:37 -0500 answered a question Instance Limit of 10

I found the option for anyone looking at this post in the future:

admin->projects

find the user in question and select the drop down next to 'Edit Projects'

Choose "modify quotas'

edit and choose 'update quota'

2012-06-11 14:27:50 -0500 answered a question Glance images on S3 storage - shared

Jay,

That's what I'm trying to avoid. The path I'm looking to take is:

1.) upload images to S3 storage without using glance 2.) Try to configure glance to use these images without adding a unique ID

I'm not sure if this is possible, or if this is a poor design choice.

Thanks. I see the values, but they don't seem to be something I can edit in the browser. How do I update this? Is it located somewhere in the database?

2012-06-10 03:00:34 -0500 asked a question Instance Limit of 10

Hello All,

Recently i notice that there is a default limit of 10 instances per user. I can't seem to find a way to change this max. When I click LAUNCH under 'images' I see Instance Count(3) 7 available. Is this hard coded some place where I can increase this value.

2012-06-10 02:53:02 -0500 asked a question Glance images on S3 storage - shared

Hello All,

I'm building out an openstack environment where we have several nodes in different locations. In order to cut down on server space, we are looking to keep images on s3 storage. However we would like the images to be shared between the nodes. Please keep in mind the nodes have no knowledge of each other. When I import an instance into glance using s3 storage, the image is saved with a unique ID. Is it possible to share the images? Without the unique ID? For instance if I uploaded several images to S3 storage(not using glance). Is there a way to configure a list of s3 images on the openstack nodes?

Thanks, Peter Borghard
