2014-02-19 22:48:50 -0500 asked a question m1.large openstack vs m1.large AWS

In AWS m1.large is as - m1.large 64-bit architecture, memory-7.5GiB 2vCPUS 4 ECUS Intel Xeon Family and in openstack m1.large is 4vCPUs, memory 8GB, disk 10GB, ephemeral 80GB. which one is faster?.

More info :

When ran a wordocunt program with same input file on Openstack with one m1.large instance and 2 m1.medium instances, on openstack it took 3 minutes and with the same selection on Amazon EMR it took 6 minutes. What could be the possible reason?

Thank you

2014-01-28 06:29:53 -0500 asked a question 2 NIC deployement for openstack - cobbler check

Hi,

I have my fuel openstack set up running on 2 NICs. I am not connected to Internet. I have two private networks on which I am deploying it.

When I set everything on dashboard and click deploy, I get error in OS installation on slaves saying "Configure the Network under which it comes - Network auto configuration failed".

I did many trials but in vain.

So I checked if everything is fine with cobbler using cobbler check on fuel master :

Output of "cobbler check" command :

The following are the potential configuration items that you may want to fix.

1: Some network boot-loders are missing from /var/lib/cobber/loaders, you may run 'cobbler get-loaders' to download them, or, if you only want to handle x86/x86_64 netbooting, you may ensure that you have installed a recent version of the syslinux package installed and can ignore this message entirely. Files in this directory should you want to support all architectures, should include pxelinux.0, menu.c32, elilo.efi, and yaboot. The 'cobbler get-loaders' command is the easiest way to resolve these requirements.

2: change 'disable' to 'no' in etc/xinetd.d/rsync

3: Since iptabes may be running, ensure 69, 80/443, and 25151 are unblocked.

4: debmirror package is not installed, it will be required to manage debian deployment and repositories.

5: ksvalidator was not found, install pykickstart.

Now, if I want to get the above done I need internet connection for the packages to be installed. So can I connect one of my NIC cards eth0 or eth1 to broadband, set an ip for the broadband from my console, do what is needed, then again connect the NIC back to switch and give previous fuel master ip that it actually had, run cobbler sync, and again deploy new cloud from dashboard to check if it works? Is it ok to interchange NIC like that ?

2014-01-23 21:58:41 -0500 asked a question Amazon EMR vs OpenStack

Hi,

I recently started working on Amazon services, and currently started knowing Amazon EMR. I am more or less familiar with openstack. So, I have a doubt to be clarified. In openstack we have controller, compute and cinder. Can some1 please tell me the equivalents in using Amazon EMR. Like the storage in EMR is S3 and storage in openstack is Cinder. So whats for compute and controller. I know they are servers supported by amazon, but can some1 please put it in words.

Thanks a ton.

Hi, Since I am VLAN tagging my switch should I go for VLAN manager in the network settings(Mirantis Fuel) or is it ok to use flatDHCP manager?(Thanks a ton for the links)

2014-01-21 05:00:31 -0500 asked a question nova network

Hi,

  1. Is it ok to use nova for network,or should I go only with Neutron. Because somewhere I came across a page saying "Nova is obslete"

  2. Using Mirantis Fuel to install openstack : While creating cloud environment, we are given options to choose Nova or Neutron. What is the difference ? Which one is better to go ? And if I am doing VLAN tagging my switch should I select the Neutron with VLAN segmentation option ? And also if I am VLAN tagging should I go for VLAN manager instead of flatDHCP manager in network settings.?

2014-01-21 04:58:23 -0500 asked a question preseed.cfg in master node and .preseed file

Hi,

  1. I installed fuel master from an ISO image.
  2. I did all the network settings and when installing OS on slave machines, I get auto configuration failed(DHCP error), then I tried manually coonfigure, and then I get failed to download debconf preconfiguration file.
  3. As I understand preconfiguration file is nothing but preseed.cfg or preseed.ks(bu I am sure preceed config file is somewhere located because the installation was smooth when I did 1 NIC deployment but now I am using more than 1 NIC, I literally searched for the file but in vain)
  4. I DO NOT FIND preseed.cfg file anywhere in the fuel master.
  5. During that failed to download debconf precofiguration file i get an url which is same as the auto url parameter in var/lib/tftboot/pxelinux.0/ (FILES GENERATED WHEN NODES BOOT)
  6. And the auto url looks like http://10.20.x.x/cblr/svc/op/ks/system/node-13 (http://10.20.x.x/cblr/svc/op/ks/syste...)
  7. My idea is to point the auto url to where the preseed.cfg(preconfiguration file) is located but I do not see any such file. Also what on earth is a file with preseed extension(.preseed) file ?
  8. So please kindly let me know what can be done.

Thank you.

And also it says "failed to download preconfiguration file" ! What can be done about this ?

Hi Dheeru, I want to mention that I got local link address, Got IPv6 auto configuration but as usual it failed in" configuring with DHCP" step. So I choose the option "manual configuration" and it is again asking for eth0 address !!! Now I am wondering why because eth0 already gets an address in pxe booting.

2014-01-09 23:07:31 -0500 commented answer Suppose I have 2 NICs in my network deployement - 1 for public and 1 for private, should DHCP(dnsmasq) run on both the interfaces

Hi Thank you for the reply. But my doubt still remains... 1. The slave nodes get an IP for pxe boot from Master node via DHCP and then installation of OS and OpenStack should continue. But my installation stops midway near "Configuring DHCP" saying "DHCP not found or slow " something like that. So I simply connected eth1 to the port meant for eth0(alongside eth0) and then installation continued. It means that slave nodes DHCP is looking for both eth0 and eth1 which is odd, because eth0 is the defiualt for pxe boot. I am unable to understand why it is looking for DHCP on eth1 also. Can you tell me any possible reasons(as I am out of ideas) so that I can trace back and fix. Thank you.

2014-01-09 22:42:07 -0500 asked a question Image to be uploaded or URL link only should be given ?

I am using fuel installer (3.2)for openstack and successfuly launched the dashboard. When I go to Images and Snapshots section it says in description that "Currently images via HTTP/URL are only accepted" . However there are options to upload an image via URL or uploading from local disk. Does this mean we have to use ONLY HTTP not upload from local disk. Because I am getting errors with the image saying it is not imported.

2014-01-08 06:47:10 -0500 asked a question nova.conf does not have few attributes

Hi,

In my nova.conf I do not see the line or parameter "allow_same_net_traffic=FALSE/TRUE" at all. Actually nova.conf should have this line included. Can I just add this in nova.conf by myself, for that matter, any missing parameters that I find in future? Also after making changes to nova.conf should I restart nova for the effects to take place or is it ok if I just exit that file ?

2014-01-07 21:55:04 -0500 asked a question Suppose I have 2 NICs in my network deployement - 1 for public and 1 for private, should DHCP(dnsmasq) run on both the interfaces

Should dnsmasq run on both the interfaces? By default pxe boots from eth0, and slave nodes get ips from the fuel master but after that it goes into "network auto config failed".

2014-01-07 05:43:46 -0500 answered a question Hi, Which container format can be used for a pre-populated image say hortonworks image that has preloaded data in it ? OVF or bare? I have this doubt because bare container format means the image doesnt have container or metadata.

I have a single qcow2 image. So I can continue with bare right?

Thank you:)
