2019-05-14 04:57:05 -0500 answered a question Problem deployment overcloud : Could not find a node for attributes bmc_address

A few ideas: Check that the "pm_addr" is a valid IPMI port, can you use those ip addresses to check the power state of the server with something like this.

ipmipower -s -h 10.64.100.11 -u manager -p "*"

Try removing the line that you don't need "physical_network": "ctlplane"

It seems to me that in a TripleO deployment there are databases installed already and the root user password is defined in /var/lib/config-data/puppet-generated/mysql/root/.my.cnf Using the password in that file, the database creation and privelege allocation steps seem to work.

2019-04-12 20:17:47 -0500 commented question Cinder service missing after tripleo deployment

Perhaps the answer is that cinder must be installed separately after overcloud deployment? if that is the case please point to where that is written in the docs?

2019-04-12 18:21:39 -0500 asked a question Cinder service missing after tripleo deployment

Cinder service is missing after successful deployment with tripleo.
There are no aparent errors with the deployment flow, and the resource list shows everything complete but cinder is missing.
I have tried this a few times and it seems to be consistent. I have been following the "network isolation" workflow, and included "ceph-ansible.yaml" in the deployment command.
https://docs.openstack.org/tripleo-docs/latest/install/advanced_deployment/network_isolation.html (https://docs.openstack.org/tripleo-do...)
Have I missed a step? What deployment logs are relevant?
There are no cinder logs in /var/log/ nor /var/log/containers.

Building VMs fails with "error prepping block device" aparently as a consequence of the missing volume service.

2019-04-10 08:43:24 -0500 commented question cinder install fails at mysql Create Database

@Bernd Bausch This immediately follows a tripleo deploy. I suspect the mysql database is owned by a docker container or something. The more pressing question is why the volume service is missing after a successful overcloud deployment with tripleo?

@moderator I can't edit the question anymore - there is no need for the mariadb service start logs.

2019-04-07 16:48:04 -0500 asked a question Search results be in order of release

This question stack is very useful, but it can be hard to sort results when they are about a specific release. Especially for questions about setup or installation, only recent releases or even a specific release is relevant.
Tags help (eg: Rocky, Queens, Pike, Ocata, Newton...) but most questions aren't tagged with the rellevant releases.
So for Rocky I resorted to sorting questions by date but some posts are about existing ageing stacks and it is not always clear.
Is there a better way to filter search results?

2019-04-07 16:48:00 -0500 commented question cinder install fails at mysql Create Database

@Bernd Bausch Yes the controller. As you say Keystone, Glance, etc. are up already. Starting the service fails probably because the controller has a database running?

2019-04-07 10:10:10 -0500 asked a question cinder install fails at mysql Create Database

After deploying Rocky, I was surprised to find no volume service. Why is that?
I found the installation instructions https://docs.openstack.org/cinder/rocky/install/index.html (https://docs.openstack.org/cinder/roc...)
But I failed at the first step:

$ mysql -u root -p
-bash: mysql: command not found

i installed mysql, and then failed at the second step:

MariaDB [(none)]> CREATE DATABASE cinder;
ERROR 1006 (HY000): Can't create database 'cinder' (errno: 13 "Permission denied")

What am I doing wrong here? Thanks in advance.
