2015-06-09 05:36:51 -0500 answered a question Juno - how to release floating IPs from a project

Hey hey,

first of all i belive floating-ips shown always as DOWN.

For release Floating IPs try this:

List all Floating IPs:

    # neutron floatingip-list
    +--------------------+------------------+---------------------+-----------------------------+
    | id                                   | fixed_ip_address | floating_ip_address | port_id                              |
    +-----------+------------------+---------------------+--------------------------------------+
    | 0a5e6d83-3e3a-45ba-bc1c-5faa3090d2a7 | 192.168.2.181| 8.2.1.3| bc9fc3cc-1023-4f5b-a970-c925e0095235
|
+-----------------------------+---------------+----------------+--------------------------------+

Detach Floating-Ips:

# neutron floatingip-disassociate 0a5e6d83-3e3a-45ba-bc1c-5faa3090d2a7

Delete Floating-Ip from Projekt:

 # neutron floatingip-delete 0a5e6d83-3e3a-45ba-bc1c-5faa3090d2a7

Hope this will help you

2015-06-03 08:42:56 -0500 answered a question instance time wrong

Soooo, now i have found the answer... you can set the os_type for images to "windows"

# glance image-update --property os_type="windows" <IMAGE-ID>

If you now boot the Image the time will be correct...

But whats with VMs already installed ?

Hack your Database!

# mysql -u root -p
$ use nova;
$ UPDATE instances set os_type='windows' where hostname='uhrzeit-test';
$ select hostname,os_type from instances WHERE hostname='uhrzeit-test';
+--------------+---------+
| hostname     | os_type |
+--------------+---------+
| uhrzeit-test | windows |
+--------------+---------+

Make a reboot of your VM and the time will be displayed correct !

2015-05-15 08:53:12 -0500 answered a question CirrOS is not assigned floating ip

You will never see the floating-IP in the instance only the OS-local-IP (192.168.0.208) because, the L3 is NATting the floating-IP to the OS-Local-IP

I believe anything is wrong with your Network Configuration... (br-ext, bridgeing ... ?!)

Set "use_ipv6 = False" in your /etc/nova/nova.conf if you want only IPv4

Your cirros VM get a IPv6 i find this confused me :)

We had virtualized network nodes in KVM, too. Now we now have dedicated hardware for those,too. Because of Slow connections! Thanks for your reply!

ahh then you must create the subnet in this new Network! Same as normal Networks!

2015-05-13 04:39:18 -0500 commented answer can not allocate flaoting ip

Of course u can but only as admin

Go to Networks under the Admin panel

  1. +Create Network
  2. Name: Extern/Provider/Whatever
  3. Project: Admin
  4. Provider Network Type: What you have set as br_ext e.g. Vlan/Flat/Local ...
  5. Set: Shared and External
  6. Finish

2015-05-13 04:16:15 -0500 answered a question can not allocate flaoting ip

You must create a externel Network first:

# neutron net-create ext-net --shared --router:external=True

# neutron subnet-create ext-net --name ext-subnet \
  --allocation-pool start=FLOATING_IP_START,end=FLOATING_IP_END \
  --disable-dhcp --gateway EXTERNAL_NETWORK_GATEWAY EXTERNAL_NETWORK_CIDR

The allocation-pool is your Floating-IP Pool

No, nothing to-do install your VMs and then use the Openstack documentation for installation.

Hey hey,

I have a Multi Controller-Compute(KVM)-Networke(Neutron) Environment based on Ubuntu 14.04 with Juno.

My problem is, that Windows VMs get the wront Time from Timeserver. I can set the time manually and reboot and the Time seams okey, but when i do a shutoff and then reboot the machine, I get the wrong time again... I belive it has nothing todo with the timezone in the VM.

My question is, where get the Instance the time from ?

Thanks for helping me !

Hey hey,

I belive i have a slow instance Snapshot issue but no logs or something else.

I have a Multi Controller-Compute(KVM)-Networke(Neutron) Envroiment based on Ubuntu 14.04 with Juno We habe a LACP bounded 1GB Network (=2GB)

Nova instances are on a NetAPP NFS Storage Glance Images on a NetAPP NFS Storage, too. Its the same NetAPP but not the same Share!

I try to Snapshot a Win Srv 12R2 instance with a 150GB C:\ Partition. On the Partition are Images and Trash, with Windows the VM need ~50GB real.

The end result is a 32,2GB big Glance Image. The Snapshot process need 45 minutes of Time.

Is the time normal ? Can I speedup the Snapshot process? Is there a possibility to snapshot like VMWare ? (Under 5 Minutes without Image?)

2015-04-23 07:33:12 -0500 asked a question XenServer on OpenStack/KVM

Hey Guys,

First: Im on Juno with a Multinode Cluster Ubuntu 14.04

is it possible to run a XenServer 6.2 (iso) on OpenStack with KVM?

I have create the Image and modified the property:

| Property 'hw_disk_bus'         | ide                                 |
| Property 'hw_vif_model'       | e1000                             |

So i can install the iso on a Volume attached to the instance The installation routine says its unable to load virtualization flags from the BIOS. So i cant install Windows VMs but the installation was successful.

Then i have create a image out of the Volume. Booting this new image run in a CPU panic and Boot loop.

Nested is true on Computenodes (Intel) I have try with all "cpu_mode" flags in nova.conf (cpu_mode = host-model|host-passthrough|custom(haswell|nehalem)) And i have try the image property hw_qemu_guest_agent=yes which result in a "No valid Host" Error ...

Now i running out of ideas .... Maybe it's impossible...

2015-02-20 03:35:08 -0500 answered a question how to backup cinder volumes to a remote swift store

You need to run cinder-backup on the host or the node where is cinder-volume running, too.

And you need the config entries for Swift in your /etc/cinder/cinder.conf:

#SWIFT
backup_driver = cinder.backup.drivers.swift
backup_swift_url = http://<proxy-server>:8080/v1/AUTH_
backup_swift_auth = per_user
backup_swift_user = swift
backup_swift_key = <password>
backup_swift_container = volumebackups
backup_swift_object_size = 52428800
backup_swift_retry_attempts = 3
backup_swift_retry_backoff = 2
backup_compression_algorithm = zlib

You can activate Cinder-Backup in horizon by editing the /etc/openstack-dashboard/local_settings.py file. Set the Option at line 176 to True:

OPENSTACK_CINDER_FEATURES = {
    'enable_backup': True,
}

After you have set the entries in the configs dont forget to restart all the services!

2015-02-11 10:52:55 -0500 commented answer Start VM: failed to allocate the network(s), not rescheduling

I believe neutron is searching for the localhost.localdomain and nova say it is disable. Do you have set in the nova.conf and neutron.conf the option: host=controller <- for controller host=compute1 <- for compute ? If not try it and restart all services!
