Issue 1 & 2 isn't really a Openstack thing. You can create your own guest images with IPv6 default enabled. Issue 3 isn't clear to me. Is the host outside the of the tenant network? How does your network look like?

The thing you look for is nested virtualisation. The answers below help you further. But depending on the OS you are using you may have different performance results. I had to give up KVM inside KVM to create windows images, because of performance issues (100% CPU & guest OS in stuck) on older HW

2017-05-22 08:48:13 -0500 answered a question Is it necessary and mandatory to install cinder or swift?

Like mentioned in the comments. Openstack itself works well without cinder & swift.

But, certain features will be not available.

If you let us know what your goals are we may can help you with the decision if you need cinder/swift or not.

2017-05-22 07:25:52 -0500 asked a question Designate, horizon & neutron net-update --dns-domain

Hi,

after implementing designate I'm getting issues when users create floating ip's for new network.

When a user creates a floating ip for a new network he gets an internal error.

First when the network has the --dns-domain name set the error disappears. But, via the horizon interface I can't set the dns-domain name for a network and I don't want to offer console access to set the dns-domain parameter. How can I get here a default domain-name without admin intervention set?

The error message:

2017-04-05 11:31:32 -0500 answered a question moving keystone to another server

If I understood it right the keys are only for encrypting the fernet tokens. With a planned downtime you shouldn't face any issue when the system comes back again and re-issues new tokens with the new keys. The old tokens will be all expired.

2017-03-29 15:45:03 -0500 answered a question Magnum second server?

Per https://docs.openstack.org/developer/magnum/ (https://docs.openstack.org/developer/...)

At this time, the conductor is limited to one process, but we intend to add horizontal scalability to the conductor as well.<<

Not sure how dated this is, but I haven't found any newer documentation yet. Currently researching the same issue.

Like Jarvis said, check your logs and another thing comes into my mind: what are the file permission settings? Apache/horizon should run as a specific user and can not write the *.pyc file if it's owned by root and only root can write it.

2017-02-24 13:03:55 -0500 answered a question Cinder Block Storage Tuning Parameters

Hello amit-g, depending on the storage there are parameter you can set. The cinder nfs driver allows via the nfs_mount_options to set specific mount parameters. Please read here your documentation of your NFS storage for the optimal parameter. A second place for tuning NFS is on the compute host itself for example by increasing for the sunrpc.tcp_slot_table_entries. But also here, check with the storage vendor what is the optimal value. And a last small tuning parameter is the mtu size of your network. Higher mtu sizes need less network transactions.

2017-02-09 14:24:33 -0500 asked a question VM times out on metadata access

Hi,

I'm currently installing my first Openstack (newton) installation and following up the Ubuntu and HA Guide. Setup consist of a controller cluster (3 nodes) and 2 networking node plus currently 2 computing nodes. Everything looks fine so far: I can create networks, vm's and so on. VM's get also the right route for the metadata IP: 169.254.169.254. The neutron metadata agents run on the networking node and "neutron agent-list" reports also no issue. The content of the metadata_agent.ini is (* with secret information is wiped out*):

[DEFAULT] nova_metadata_ip = hostname of controller cluster metadata_proxy_shared_secret = same key as in nova.con on controller debug = true verbose = true

I also see no errors in the log files when I manually "curl http://169.254.169.254%22 (http://169.254.169.254"), it just times out.

Any ideas how to debug this?
