2018-08-06 03:10:27 -0500 answered a question ComputeHostNotFound_Remote: Compute host controller1 could not be found.

I have found another error in nova-compute.log on controller1:

Could not open '/var/lib/libvirt/images/win7.qcow2': Permission denied\n"

It turn out that other workmate has created some vm using virt-install on controller1 some days ago.

so this time , when I setup compute service on controller1 , it will install libvirtd , and something may mess up .

After undefining the old vm(virsh undefine win7)and restart services, it succeed to add controller1 to compute nodes.

Hi community,

I have setup openstack pike on ubuntu 16.04 about half a year ago.

It consists of controller1 ,controller2,compute1,compute2.

It already has three compute nodes : controller2,compute1,compute2

Now I want to add controller1 to compute nodes.

I set it up according to https://docs.openstack.org/nova/pike/install/compute-install-ubuntu.html

But it fail to add controller1 to compute nodes.

I try to boot a vm after I disabled controller2,compute1,compute2

It shows error: No Vaild host found .

/var/log/nova/nova-compute.log shows :

No compute node record for host controller1: ComputeHostNotFound_Remote: Compute host controller1 could not be found.

root@controller1:~# nova service-list --binary nova-compute |grep controller1

| bfdacdd5-ede8-488c-98c3-fcec2943c39b | nova-compute | controller1 | nova | enabled | up | 2018-08-06T07:21:18.000000 | - | False

but nova hypervisor-list does not shows controller1

root@controller1:~# su -s /bin/sh -c "nova-manage cell_v2 discover_hosts --verbose" nova ## does not find controller1

Found 2 cell mappings. Skipping cell0

since it does not contain hosts.

Getting computes from cell 'cell1': 7eba3d3e-3886-48fd-828c-e5ef562b414f

Found 0 unmapped computes in cell:7eba3d3e-3886-48fd-828c-e5ef562b414f

Any hints is appreciated! Thank you !

2016-09-01 21:17:42 -0500 answered a question security_group_rules_for_devices RPC timeout and vm network fail

Finally, I figure out that neutron-sever is the comsumer of q-plugin queue , after restart neutron-sever service , the messages are comsumed again, vm network recovery .

2016-08-31 05:30:27 -0500 asked a question security_group_rules_for_devices RPC timeout and vm network fail

we are running Havana (2013.2.3 )(provider network/ovs bridge/dhcp/dnsmasq.

It is running well in the past .

But today something broken , when creating a new vm , the vm was created successfully , but vm network failed.

I see "cloud-init-nonet waiting 120 seconds for a network device." via nova console-log vmid.

vm did not get ip via dhcp.

I tried to ifconfig the vm manually via vnc , but network failed either.

There is error log in /var/log/neutron/openvswitch-agent.log:

ERROR neutron.plugins.openvswitch.agent.ovs_neutron_agent [-] Error in agent event loop Timeout while waiting on RPC response - topic: "q-plugin", RPC method: "security_group_rules_for_devices" info: "<unknown>"

There are lots of message which are not comsumed in q-plugin queue in rabbitmq.

The numbers of message in q-plugin queue is getting more and more .

root@mq-27:~# rabbitmqctl list_queues name durable messages |grep q-plugin

q-plugin false 135269

My questions are :

  1. Does the q-plugin lead to the vm network failture?
  2. if so , who are the comsumer of q-plugin , how I can make them comsume again?
  3. it is said that it will skip "q-plugin" RPC timeout issue if disabling security group . I've read this post https://ask.openstack.org/en/question/9592/disabling-security-groups-in-horizon/ (https://ask.openstack.org/en/question...) and wonder whether I should edit both(nova and neutron) configuration files only in HV or also in nova/neutron server (controller)?

Thank you .

2016-05-19 05:31:45 -0500 asked a question nova service-list shows that all compute node are "down".

We have run openstack(icehouse on ubt 12.04/14.04) for a year. We setup RabbitMQ in master/slave mode . Openstack component connect to MQ via its vip. Some days ago ,the MQ master node went down , so the vip floated to slave node, after master node rebooted , vip floated back to master node.

And we have a problem now: nova service-list shows that all compute node are "down".

But in fact , there exists connection between compute node and MQ root@computenode:~# sudo netstat -antp |grep 5672 tcp 0 0 10.0.0.10:28846 10.0.2.7:5672 ESTABLISHED 53206/python

tcp 0 0 10.0.0.10:28845 10.0.2.7:5672 ESTABLISHED 53206/python

pid 2519 is neutron-openvswitch-agent pid 53206 is nova-compute

I know that if I restart nova-compute on the compute node, it will fix the problem , but it will cause a short network outage(some seconds) for the VM on that compute node .

My question is that : Is there any way to fix this problem without causing a short network outage for the VM ? Thank you .
