2017-05-26 05:23:50 -0500 asked a question Shared File System between host and VMs?

I have a physical host and I have launched Multiple VMs on it. I have certain files in my host which I wish to access from my VM. After researching a little about it I found out that I can put a file into my VM using cloud-init. But I dont want a file. I want the entire file system of my host to be accessible from the host without using SSH.

2017-05-24 00:29:53 -0500 asked a question Running out of resources?

Suppose I launch a VM with m1.tiny flavour which has 1GB of storage and 512MB of RAM. Assume I ssh into my VM from its physical host machine and using scp command I copy a file from the physical host to the VM where the file size is more than 1GB or if I simply download a file in the VM's browser which is of more than 1GB. What happens then? Does Nova take care of scaling up the required resources or is there an error? And also if Nova does scale up the resources what will be the new flavor of the VM?

2017-05-11 00:02:47 -0500 asked a question OpenStack inside VM

I have set up OpenStack on a multi node platform with one controller node and two compute nodes (one of them is the controller node itself), I have launched VMs and I wish to know if I can setup OpenStack again on that VM? Will there be issues due to virtualization and not complete and direct access to hardware?

2017-04-17 05:53:51 -0500 asked a question Measure load on physical host?

I developed a health monitoring application which basically finds out the AVG value of CPU utilization using the command ceilometer statistics -m cpu_util and some condition checking is done based on that value and I am migrating the VM ( nova migrate $IDOfTheVM ) from one node to another based on the outcome of the condition. I need statistics like how much load was there before migration and how much is there after migration?

How can I get these values?

To give a clear idea my code does this :

    ceilometer statistics -m cpu_util > /root/hello.txt
    var=0
    echo -e "\nExtracting Avg CPU utilization value...."
    sleep 2
   #Sed is used to extract the value.
    str="$(sed -n '4'p /root/hello.txt)"
             for i in ${str//|/ }
            do
                ((var++))
                if [ $var -eq 6 ]
                   then Avg=$i
                     echo -e "Average CPU utilization : $Avg %\n"
                fi
            done
    if [ "$Avg > 15" ]
        then
          nova migrate $IDOfTheVM
    fi

The command ceilometer statistics -m cpu gives the following output

-------+----------------------------+
| Period | Period Start               | Period End                 | Max           | Min            | Avg           | Sum           | Count | Duration    | Duration Start             | Duration End               |
