2019-02-26 22:16:39 -0500 asked a question nova can't find my SR-IOV VF

Hi,

I am trying to setup SR-IOV in Openstack through mellanox connectx-4 Lx nics.

I use Openstack Rocky deployed with Kolla-ansible.

For some reason nova can't find any PCI decive:

The server does not gets created with the following error:

| fault | {u'message': u'PCI device not found for request ID 419c5fa0-1b7a-4a83-b691-2fcb0fba94cc.', u'code': 500, u'details': u' File "/usr/lib/python2.7/site-packages/nova/compute/manager.py", line 1940, in _do_build_and_run_instance\n filter_properties, request_spec)\n File "/usr/lib/python2.7/site-packages/nova/compute/manager.py", line 2229, in _build_and_run_instance\n instance_uuid=instance.uuid, reason=six.text_type(e))\n', u'created': u'2019-02-26T04:21:01Z'} |

2019-02-26 22:12:51 -0500 commented answer Why we choose OpenStack cloud platform to build a private cloud ?

esxi itself is just a hypervisor, openstack sits on top of many hypervisors, it is a set of projects that helps you to manage your infrastructure. Most private companies uses Openstack to build their private cloud business, examples are Oracle and IBM/Redhat just to mention 2 relevant players

Hi,

I am running a test opentack environment with 2 compute nodes each one of them with and MTU 9000.

Compute nodes:

  • hercules-21 (10.0.32.21): 64cpus, 512GB RAM and 2x 25Gbps bond network
  • hercules-22 (10.0.32.22): 64cpus, 512GB RAM and 2x 25Gbps bond network

VMs:

  • centos (192.168.1.110): 8 vcpus, 16GB RAM
  • centos2 (192.168.1.109): 8 vcpus, 16GB RAM

Network bandwidth test physical host to physical host using iperf3:

how are you creating your networks? looks like the DNS server is missing. Make sure the DNS settings are correct in your DHCP server.
