2018-02-08 15:16:21 -0600 commented question Error creating volume from image

Please note that Newton has now been designated EOL - https://releases.openstack.org/ - and is thus no longer supported.

2017-12-14 13:36:00 -0600 commented question controller node unexpectedly reboots

I feel like this question isn't going to get any answers because there's nothing to go on here. This could be almost anything - perhaps not even OpenStack related at all. Do you have any log messages anywhere that we could look at to help troubleshoot?

2017-12-14 12:56:09 -0600 commented question CentOS OpenStack - compute node can't talk

This issue has been untouched for more than a year. Is it something that you're still experiencing with a current release of OpenStack?

2017-12-14 12:46:31 -0600 edited question CentOS 7 packstack - Instance fails, Error: Volume did not finish being created

Hello there, I installed packstack -allinone on CentOS 7 of openstack ocata. I created a single instance with my manually created image of Lubuntu 16.04. But now i can not create any more instance. Instance creation fails with error -

Build of instance e485ce56-c91c-4a5f-b02a-7a8937264f63 aborted: Volume dbacff49-3263-4728-952d-f4563f70589e did not finish being created even after we waited 3 seconds or 2 attempts. And its status is error.

I have tried with cirros still same problem. But can still start and use the instance of Lubuntu i created with 20GB disk. I have uploaded logs of cinder and nova here - https://www.dropbox.com/s/kokxhq04v6jydzo/logs.tar.gz?dl=0 (https://www.dropbox.com/s/kokxhq04v6j...) . Keep in mind i am a beginner user. Kindly help.

Edit: I can launch instances if i set create new volume to "No". Output of df, pvs and vgs -

2017-12-12 14:08:04 -0600 edited question instance gets multiple fixed IPs

I am running a nova-network node with FlatDHCPManager and 4 nova-compute nodes (one of them is also the nova-network node.

I have multiple networks on the nodes via vlans (eth1.101, eth1.102, etc) Which I also created inside openstack with this command:

nova network-create --fixed-range-v4 10.10.3.0/24 --vlan 102 --bridge br102 --bridge-interface eth1.102 --project-id 6e497c3118da4b8297c67f7f8e2d99d8 net102

All networks are created like the above example, with --project-id included.

Then when I create an instance inside a project, it get's fixed IPs from all created networks like this:

image description

Shouldn't they get only from the asossiated project?

Is this a bug or am I missing something?

2017-12-11 15:55:23 -0600 answered a question No domains except default domains are visible in horizon

https://bugs.launchpad.net/horizon/+b... is resolved in the latest release, as of 2017-02-24 If you are still experiencing this problem in a more recent release, please speak up. Alternately, if you need a backport to Newton, make a comment to that effect on that ticket.

2017-12-11 15:53:12 -0600 commented question No domains except default domains are visible in horizon

For anyone else wondering, here's the Horizon bug: https://bugs.launchpad.net/horizon/+b... (so it's still not fixed in Newton)

2017-11-22 13:09:34 -0600 edited question provider network vlan external dhcp

Hi all,

I come from a vSphere environment with DVS. I tested an openstack deployment using RDO packstack and was able to create a network setup similar to vSphere but now I'm stuck because we already have a Windows DHCP server on our provider network and I don't want the dnsmasq to interfere with it.

I have deployed a 4 node (1 controller + 3 compute) setup. On all nodes 2 10Gb nics are bonded to bond0 which is then mapped to br-ex. For testing I created a network and a subnet with DHCP enabled and allocated a range of free IPs that is excluded from the existing Windows DHCP. Using this I can deploy instances that can reach machines on the same vlan outside of openstack just fine by adjusting the security group.

I thought this dnsmasq DHCP is somehow isolated so that only instances can reach it but in /var/log/messages I can see that all sorts of machines on the same provider vlan reach it to:

Nov 14 15:32:53 gedaspl03 dnsmasq-dhcp[6116]: DHCPREQUEST(tapf01d75bb-1e) 172.28.19.178 00:50:56:b7:38:81
Nov 14 15:32:53 gedaspl03 dnsmasq-dhcp[6116]: DHCPNAK(tapf01d75bb-1e) 172.28.19.178 00:50:56:b7:38:81 lease not found

So I stopped my test for now as I don't think it is good to have more then one DHCP. :P I'm now wondering If a setup similar to vSphere is even possible?

My question is, can I simply ignore the messages regarding dnsmasq because it is really somehow isolated and only instances will get IPs or do I have to use tenant networks with routers and floating IPs?

Best Regards, Oliver

Hi there,

My Openstack release is 3.12.0 (RDO) I have configured DNSaaS with Designate according to this instruction: https://access.redhat.com/documentati...

Unfortunately, the auto-generation of DNS records does not work. I can see and create new zones and records, but auto-generation during the instance creation does not work. Moreover, no any clue in sink.log file.

2017-08-22 15:12:26 -0600 edited question Dashboard: Internal Server Error after installing tacker

Hi all,

I installed tacker in the link https://docs.openstack.org/tacker/oca...

After I did the step: cp tacker_horizon/enabled/* /usr/share/openstack-dashboard/openstack_dashboard/enabled/, then restart httpd.service ( I installed Openstack on Centos7).

I tried to login to Openstack via dashboard, it showed:

2017-08-22 15:11:12 -0600 edited question How can I add a file selection list when selecting Heat templates in Horizon

I see in the Horizon Stack Menu you can enter a Heat template using a local file selection, a text base URL or via direct input. We have a repository of these templates and would like allow the user to select them from a list. I see in openstack_dashboard/dashboards/project/stacks/forms.py is the place to update this. There is a comment that says:

  # TODO(jomara) - update URL choice for template & environment files
  # w/ client side download when applicable

Any idea if someone has worked on this, or added the ability to select heat tempates from a list. Preferable on the server side.

If not, any tips on how I can do this my self.

2017-08-22 15:08:10 -0600 edited question Ocata creates 2 IPs of same subnet in each instance

When I followed official guide from Ocata version in Openstack.org after create and validated test enviroment in VirtualBox/Ubuntu. I created instances in provider and selfservice network. in both cases for each server automatically is created 2 vNIC, I double check configuration but I don't see find any issue.

openstack server list

+--------------------------------------+----------------------+--------+------------------------------------------------+------------+

+--------------------------------------+----------------------+--------+------------------------------------------------+------------+

IP address (10.1.2.62) from provider subnet in "selfservice instance" can ping from controller. IP addresses in self-service subnet create 2 IP addresses (172.16.1...) IP address (10.1.2.56) in provider instance ping but second IP (10.1.2.51) cannot from controller.

Does it only create one IP address in instances? if I delete them and create again, it create with 2 vNIC. how can it be checked?

thanks in advance

2017-08-22 14:54:49 -0600 edited question QoS: neutron bandwidth limit method

now I am learning the neutron QoS service in the OpenStack. Here is a rule namely "bandwidth limit". With the user guide of OpenStack Documentation, I can limit the bandwidth of the network and after using by Iperf, I have verified that the limit of bandwidth is working.

I guess I used the Linuxbridge configuration instead of OpenVswitch configuration.

------------------------------------------------------------
Server listening on TCP port 5001
TCP window size: 85.3 KByte (default)
------------------------------------------------------------
[  4] local 10.30.0.7 port 5001 connected with 192.168.115.105 port
42726
[ ID] Interval       Transfer     Bandwidth
[  4]  0.0- 6.5 sec  1.25 MBytes  1.62 Mbits/sec

Now I am confused what is the method in neutron that could limit the bandwidth of the network or port. By checking the source codes I have not found the method of the bandwidth limit.

Is anybody who knows the method in neutron? And which parts play the important role in limiting the bandwidth?

I have checked the traffic control in linux, the path is neutron/agent/linux/tc_lib.py. I am not sure, if it is immediately available after changing the code in tc_lib.py.

Thanks for your help:), I am glad to hear from your answer.

I face this error message:

root@komit:/opt/odoo/code/docker/my_pack# python setup.py install

ImportError: No module named tasks
error in setup command: Error parsing /opt/odoo/code/docker/my_pack/setup.cfg: ImportError: No module named tasks

To reproduce:

pip install cli-helpers>=0.2.0 # But it will work with 0.1.0
git init my_pack && cd my_pack
echo """[metadata]
name = foo
author = bar
author_email = foo@bar""" > setup.cfg

echo """import setuptools
setuptools.setup(setup_requires=['pbr'], pbr=True)
""" > setup.py
git add setup.cfg setup.py && git commit -m "foo"
python setup.py install

But this works well when using version 0.1.0 of cli-helpers.

2017-08-03 14:46:46 -0600 edited question RDO Mitaka instance boot error

I used RHEL 7.2 for RDO Mitaka installation according to the guide mention here in (https://docs.openstack.org/mitaka/ins...) . I verified all the steps one by one no error till the end. Instance created by dashboard, while take console of the VM its showing boot error and instance stuck also the compute node gets pause. Error showing

SeaBIOS (version 1.9.1-5.el7_3.3) Machine UUID .... .... iPXE (http://ipxe.org) 00:03.0 C980 PCI2.10 PnP PMM.

I am using QEMU 1.5.3( Latest Version) and RHEL kernel version 3.10.0-327

in nova.conf file virt_type = qemu

How can I solve this problem? (I have tried on cirros, rhel and ubuntu qcow2 demo image from Openstack, and same result). Nova compute node only showing warning i.e

This issue is 2 years old this week, and so presumably against an EOL version of OpenStack. Is this something that you're still having difficult with?

This is driving me nuts. No matter what subnet, CIDR and gateway I put into the "Admin Tenant Network Parameters", I get an error:

Here's my network config:
