2015-11-25 13:56:15 -0500 asked a question shared storage between hosts

We have a storage (storwize v3700) , and 2 servers (ibm 3650) with SAS connection to the storage.
In in a vmware environment we have created a big volume, and we have shared that volume to the 2 servers. So the 2 servers share the same volume, and for example live migration is possible, or also HA.

How do we achieve the same with openstack / cinder?

We have created lvm group on each server and what we have seen so far, is that if we share a volume to another host, it is shared through iSCSI, but this transport has no speed.

Thank you.

2015-11-13 13:23:26 -0500 answered a question Cinder list error status

Cinder-volumes are running?

cinder service-list

And also check in the nodes:

ps -e | grep cinder-volume

Also check if the packages installed on the nodes and admin are exactly the same version:

dpkg -l | grep cinder

If not, install the same version on all nodes and admin.

LVM volumes-groups are created?

Also check this: According to should be set to = [ "a/sda", "a/sdb/", "r/.*/" ], which is wrong, filter should be a/sda/ (with a backslash at the end of the line)

2015-11-13 11:43:32 -0500 asked a question cinder: control volume placement

Hello everyone,

I have: Admin horizon, and two servers. Server A with internal disks, and server B with a storage connected.

So I want to control where to store VM disks, i.e. I want to create a VM and tell openstack, store the cinde volume in the storage.

What I have done: Create availability zones , and put server A in one availability zone, and server B in another.

But I get errors:

Error:Failed to launch instance.Please try again later [Err: No valid host was found. ]. or "Error: Build of instance <id> aborted: Failure prepping block device"

How is this done, or if this is not a correct design, please guide me through the right path. Enlight me =)

Thank you! Gonzalo.-

2015-11-02 13:25:31 -0500 answered a question Why is nova-compute showing XXX

As you can see, on my host I had different versions. The way to install/update/upgrade is: (in next example, I have juno, and will only reinstall nova-compute)

aptitude install software-properties-common;

add-apt-repository cloud-archive:juno;

aptitude update;

aptitude install python-mysqldb ntp;

Reinstall packages

aptitude install nova-compute sysfsutils

service nova-compute restart

Hello Lluis. We have the same problem. We can use the LVM, but the space in the dashboard corresponds to the /root partition, insead of the LVM. Could you solved it?
