2014-12-09 02:49:54 -0500 answered a question How to debug 'connection refused' issues when running devstack

The error that you facing "Max retries exceeded with.." can be caused due ti various reasons. But here the issues is with nova as port is "8774".

In devstack by default logs are not generated.

To debug this please try checking if all the services are running or not? using "ps -Af | grep SERVICE-NAME" command or "screen -r". Since nova depends on glance, neutron, cinder and AMQP server, ensure all these are running.

2014-11-21 02:23:06 -0500 commented question Expecting a token provided via either --os-token or env[OS_SERVICE_TOKEN]

ok.. then can you try checking if your able to telnet the "controller" on "35357" port. And also if there is any proxy involved, please unset it and try.

2014-11-19 00:15:04 -0500 commented question Expecting a token provided via either --os-token or env[OS_SERVICE_TOKEN]

can you take a new terminal. export OS_SERVICE_TOKEN, OS_SERVICE_ENDPOINT variables. And try to create tenant, users. If its a single node deployment, try setting the value to localhost.

2014-11-03 00:26:16 -0500 commented question neutron-server is not running

ok.. when you say cmd, are you trying to start netrron-server directly on terminal, if so just check the permissions of /etc/neutron/* and /var/log/neutron/* directories, may be neutron services are not having privileges to read/write in those directories.

2014-10-31 00:45:30 -0500 commented question neutron-server is not running

Try checking if there are any space issues on the machine in which neutron-server is running? And also try deleting neutron-server.log, restart netron-server service and check if there are any error messeges in the log.

Thanks vthapar. I have seen this sentence in ML2 wiki page "Unlike with the metaplugin, multiple mechanisms can be used simultaneously to access different ports of the same virtual network." so I got the doubt. Can you please explain this statement?

while going through the ml2 README file I came accross the below line:

By utilizing the multiprovidernet extension, virtual networks can be composed of multiple segments of the same or different types.

Can anyone explain me this line please? And also does "segment" mean a vlan-id or tunnel-id??

Thank you sgordon. when you say "mix L2 technologies" does that mean we can use mutilple mechanism drivers in the same deployment, like I can create a port using opensvswitch and another port using linux bridge with-in the same subnet, in single openstack deployment??
Thanks in advance.

Are you running rabbitmq-server in the compute node? If not, please set these config variables in nova.conf file of compute now: rabbit_hosts=MACHINE_IP_WHERE_RABBITMQ_RUNNING:5672 rabbit_password, rabbit_userid, Restart nova-compute service and check logs.

2014-09-18 04:09:21 -0500 commented answer why does keystone have admin port while other services dont

the admin port is generally not open for all the users, i.e, telnet to 35357 will not work from all the machines by default. Only datacenter people have access to it and they can add users and services. For restricting this access keystone has two types of ports.

2014-09-18 03:15:27 -0500 answered a question why does keystone have admin port while other services dont

Keystone service has types of ports admin and public. And as the name says, the admin port is reuiqred when we do admin activities like creating a tenant, registering a user/service, creating endpoints etc. Where as the public port is used for authentication, getting tokens.

Generally the port 35357 is not open for all. Means if we need to do any admin activities, then we can do it only from a machine where keystone is running.

2014-09-17 07:50:04 -0500 commented question Default role for a tenant in keystone

As far as I know there will not be any role associated to user by default. After fetching the user authentication details from LDAP, we need to associate user with a role.

2014-09-17 07:33:38 -0500 commented question admin creation fails "Conflict occurred attempting to store project"

As the trace says "duplicate entry 'default-admin' for key 'domain_id", that means there is already an entry in db with admin project, try clearing the keystone db and re-run devstack.

2014-09-16 01:34:13 -0500 asked a question Can we create a common network for all tenants using nova-network

Hi,

I want to create a common network for all the tenants or at least for all the users (admin/non-admin) in a particular tenant. But the non-admin users are not able to access this network.

Created a network without assiocaiting it to any project.

nova network-create example-net --fixed-range-v4=172.16.169.0/24 --vlan=169 --bridge=br169

But as a non-admin user I am unable to see this network using nova network-list.

$nova network-list
{empty line}
$

Setup used is openstack grizzly with nova-network.

Can we actually do this? Please help.
