What do you mean by "the ring is properly synced"? All the data have been moved to its new location ?

Hi, After we rebalance the ring, we push it to all the proxy nodes and storage nodes. Will these laters start using the new ring at that moment, or would they wait some time until the data is relocated? If they start using it at that moment then the proxy will send some requests to some storage nodes and the data isn't yet arrived to that node (if we have bulk data transfer, there would be some delay) ?

I'm asking about the steps that swift do after a rebalance.

When we add new drive to a ring in Swift, and rebalance the, what are the steps Swift makes to migrate data from one drive to another? I think that the replicator performs these tasks. But can anyone enumerate the steps for me ? Is the data replicated first and the deleted from the source? Is that a possibility that two storage nodes replicate the same data to one other storage node?

2015-04-06 11:50:19 -0500 asked a question Swift: Two nodes replicating the same partition

Hello, If we have a swift deployment with three nodes and three replications. Could we have at one time two replication process for the same partition. More clearly could storage nodes A and B replicate the same partition on the storage node C ?

So, I understand that when doing a rebalance, only one of the three replicas is moved. The rebalance process never moves 2 replicas ?

Thank you,

Yes I saw that, but I was asking how did they chose that number? Why 100?

Hi,

As per the http://docs.openstack.org/developer/swift/deployment_guide.html (deployment guide) , there should be a minimum of 100 partitions per drive. (As recommended by swiftstack too) My question is how this number was chosen? What are the impacts of that number on the swift's performance?
