2015-04-03 03:59:36 -0500 commented answer Which server do I use as which component in a Tripleo environment

Thank you for the response. My OpenStack is running and in the end it didn't really matter which server took which role, because with HP Helion community edition I wasn't able to manually choose this. In the end all the nodes where downgraded using the least powerful flavor of the stack.

2015-04-03 03:55:09 -0500 asked a question Which dashboard does an end-user connect to within OpenStack tripleo environment

I have a running OpenStack HP Helion community edition in which I can create instances and connect to the OpenStack components through http and ssh. I am looking at this throughout a sysadmin point of view and I was wondering to which dashboard I am connecting as an end-user? Meaning the people that will use my private cloud's resources; Are they making a connection through the seed host and is this seed forwarding them to the correct instance of OpenStack via the seed VM, or are they connecting directly to the OpenStack component without interference of the seed?

When I am looking for information about this topic, I could only find hands-on labs which describe "how to login in the dashboard", etc but this is not what I am looking for.

Can anyone clarify this?

That solves the problem, but isn't it a work-around kind of way. Isn't there another option? I am wandering whether or not there are packages available for your machine, so that you can just add packages and the problem will be solved?

2015-03-24 03:58:36 -0500 asked a question HP Helion community edition baremetal; switch configuration

I am trying to install the HP Helion community edition of OpenStack. Before doing so, I would think I'll need to make some changes in the switch configuration. I'm not sure on how I am going to do this and which things I should keep in mind while doing so. Does anyone have any experience what so ever on configuring the switch before an installation with HP Helion OpenStack community edition?

I have added the link to their explanation; http://docs.hpcloud.com/helion/community/network-requirements/ (http://docs.hpcloud.com/helion/commun...)

2015-03-12 00:55:15 -0500 asked a question Which server do I use as which component in a Tripleo environment

I am currently trying to set up an OpenStack environment using the HP Helion community edtion. When I was reading about the minimum requirements, I've tried to build a setup which came as close to these requirements as I could get with the material that was given to me. Now I am wondering which role I am going to assign to which server in the deployment. I was also wondering which specs are most important when making this decision.

Here is the list of servers I have used and their specs:

  • HP Proliant DL360p G8 - 2 cpu's (8 cores) - 300Gb hard drive - 32 Gb RAM
  • HP Proliant DL360p G8 - 1 cpu (4 cores) - 600Gb hard drive - 32 Gb RAM (2 servers with the exact same specs)
  • HP Proliant DL360 G7 - 2 cpu's (6 cores) - 292 Gb hard drive - 36 Gb RAM
  • HP Proliant DL360 G7 - 1 cpu (4 cores) - 292 Gb hard drive -24 Gb RAM (2 servers with the exact same specs)
  • HP Proliant DL 360 G7 - 1 cpu (4 cores) - 292 Gb hard drive - 20 Gb RAM
  • HP Proliant DL380 G5 - 2cpu's - 144 Gb hard drive - 22 Gb RAM

The only thing I am sure of at this time, is that I am going to use the last server as the seed server.
