IS THERE A DOCUMENT THAT DISCUSSES THE ADDING OF COMPUTE-NODES OTHER THAN THE BASE NODE?

I have installed DEVSTACK on a machine. I choose Ubuntu 14.04.01 and used the instructions found at http://docs.openstack.org/developer/devstack/ I can use the dashboard to launch an instance or two. DEVSTACK makes it easy to deploy. I thought this might make it easy to build from.

My goal is to extend the solution and add a node.

I haven't seen a step by step process of how to do this. There is a document http://docs.openstack.org/icehouse/install-guide/install/apt/content/nova-compute.html . This document is for Icehouse. It seems consistent. Then there is the document http://docs.openstack.org/kilo/install-guide/install/apt/content/neutron-compute-node.html which is for Kilo. I find it very odd that the phrase apt-get install nova-compute-kvm isn't mentioned once. In fact you will note the wording contained in the url is "neutron-compute-node" This page talks a lot about OpenSwitch service and something called Moduler Layer 2 (ML2) Plug in. There is just the bare hint about modifying the /etc/neutron/neutron.conf file. (when if I am adding a node I would have thought would nova.conf)

IS THERE A DOCUMENT THAT DISCUSSES THE ADDING OF COMPUTE-NODES OTHER THAN THE BASE NODE?

This seems to be a good forum so I will ask this question as well... Is there a document that talks about theory about the support system? I believe the diagrams that I have looked at when they discuss logical OpenStack divisions/section lists "support" consisting of RabitMQ; MySQL Glance; Keystone; and Horizon (Dashboard) From my simple view I am trying to become comfortable how/when the Node information is reported.
At some point something is gather asset information sockets/cores/logical processors, memory, hard drives and storing that in the MySQL database. It doesn't take much to envision that behind the scene something like "virsh nodeinfo" collects the information and populates it. I just don't know how /when this occurs.

Thanks!
