Cannot connect to the instance console for a VM

We can launch our VM's and they show up as instances and according to the dashboard are assigned IP's yet the instance console cannot connect: "The connection to the server was reset while the page was loading."

So far we have determined:

  • we cannot ping or ssh to the ip
  • using tcpdump, that the assigned IP never was assigned to the VM
  • the VM had a static IP and that static ip is generating traffic
  • we cannot ping or ssh to the 'static' ip from any host
  • log files are not showing any obvious errors

We have been trying to debug this for many days with no success any help would be appreciated.

We are using the OpenStack Icehouse docs, Ubuntu, and we are using GRE networking.

    ip netns exec qdhcp-0bfe4cfd ping or ssh to the ip
  • using tcpdump, that the assigned -c 3 192.168.99.18

    and the IP never was assigned to the VM

  • is up so the VM had a static is getting the IP and that static ip is generating traffic
  • we cannot ping or ssh to the 'static' ip from any host
  • log files are not showing any obvious errors
  • DHCP service is running

Cannot connect to the instance console for a VM

Tried connecting to qdhcp and pinging the VM:

ip netns exec qdhcp-0bfe4cfd ping  -c 3 192.168.99.18

and the IP is up so the VM is getting the IP and responding to pings. Cannot pings but we cannot connect on the dashboard console.

We are using the using:

  • OpenStack Icehouse configuration
  • cirros-0.3.2-x86_64 test image.

  • GRE networking.

Cannot connect to the instance console for a VM

We can launch our VM's and they show up as instances and according to the dashboard are assigned IP's yet the instance console cannot connect: "The connection to the server was reset while the page was loading."

Tried connecting to qdhcp and pinging the VM from the stack network host:

ip netns exec qdhcp-0bfe4cfd ping  -c 3 192.168.99.18

and the IP is up so the VM is getting the IP and responding to pings but we cannot connect on the dashboard instance console.

We are using:

  • OpenStack Icehouse configuration
  • cirros-0.3.2-x86_64 test VM image
  • Ubuntu
  • GRE networking.
