Is module kvm_intel needed if qemu is used?

This is a question about the Install Gudi for Icehouse. The Ubunutu version of the installguide on this page http://docs.openstack.org/icehouse/install-guide/install/apt/content/nova-compute.html says that if the virtual cpu does not support hardware acceleration, we must edit the [libvirt] section in the /etc/nova/nova-compute.conf to change

virt_type = kvm

into

virt_type = qemu

Then in apparently the same section (as shown by the indented text in that section) it says to add the kvm module (for example kvm_intel) to /etc/modules so it will be loaded.

But, since we are using qemu instead of kvm, is this needed?
