I was able to bring up my single node openstack on Centos but I cant start or create a instance successfully.

Build of instance 49d6bf7f-f142-41bb-8152-040867ede6c3 aborted: Block Device Mapping is Invalid.
Code: 500
Details: File "/usr/lib/python2.7/site-packages/nova/compute/manager.py", line 1779, in _do_build_and_run_instance filter_properties) File "/usr/lib/python2.7/site-packages/nova/compute/manager.py", line 1939, in _build_and_run_instance 'create.error', fault=e) File "/usr/lib/python2.7/site-packages/oslo_utils/excutils.py", line 220, in __exit__ self.force_reraise() File "/usr/lib/python2.7/site-packages/oslo_utils/excutils.py", line 196, in force_reraise six.reraise(self.type_, self.value, self.tb) File "/usr/lib/python2.7/site-packages/nova/compute/manager.py", line 1904, in _build_and_run_instance block_device_mapping) as resources: File "/usr/lib64/python2.7/contextlib.py", line 17, in __enter__ return self.gen.next() File "/usr/lib/python2.7/site-packages/nova/compute/manager.py", line 2066, in _build_resources reason=e.format_message())

I saw a lot of people facing the same issue, but there is no particular fix for this. I tried few things from out posts:

  • setting few config params or increasing the values for block device mapping in cinder.conf file.

  • Creating instance and waiting for error, then creating a instance from the volume that was created from the previous instance that failed

Nothing seems to work for me.

Please let us know if there is perm fix for this.

Node config:

  1. single node
  2. centos 7
  3. 16 gig memory
  4. 1 tb attached + two 6tbhdd on SATA
  5. Openstack - newton RDO branch

UPDATE 11/21/16
Regarding nova boot syntax see detailed draft here
http://dbaxps.blogspot.com/2016/10/rd...
Command bellow is explained in details :-

# nova boot --flavor 2 --key-name oskey112116  \
   --image e7879fdd-8489-46f6-935e-22e0fb7dcd1c  \
   --nic net-id=fc3544a6-0570-4052-8e2b-122364da2bd6 vf24devs01

END UPDATE

Per my experience with RDO Newton deployed via TripleO or packstack (AIO setup)

1. Launching instance via glance image works via NOVA CLI
2. Launching instance via cinder volume (located in Ceph Cluster ) works via Dahboard

I would greatly appreciate if you dont mind describing a little more on your answer/response. Would i need to integrate Ceph Cluster with my openstack installation now since Im using dashboard?

How do i go about NOVA cli?

@abe
1. Ceph cluster was automaticly deployed during TripleO install on 3 OSD nodes and three monitor daemons running each one ot it's own HA Controller in PCS Cluster.
2. Regarding packstack :- link with NOVA CLI I will add as UPDATE to answer. Just scroll my blog down.

I would suggest you try simple cinder back end ( like default lvm) or ISCSI . Manual Ceph deployment with Openstack even been documented in details still causes too much head aches which are eliminated by TripleO during overcloud deployment. Once again kudos to RH.
