How is the nova instance ID generated? Is it the same as the SMBIOS system UUID (defined in System Management BIOS (SMBIOS) Reference Specification) found using the userspace command-line utility dmidecode?

Hi, it is same. In most-typical deployment scenario - once Nova generates UUID it will pass it to Libvirt which is controlling QEMU which is controlling that part of SMBIOS I don't know what happens in case you use different Nova Compute driver)
