Neutron Floodlight

I have installed Controller on Ubuntu12.04 and Compute on Ubuntu12.04

I have installed Floodlight+Neutron on the Controller. I have not used devstack. I am using Bigswitch Restproxy. So I have disabled the neutron-l3-agent.

I am facing the below issues. 1) I am not able to ssh to the VM instances. Normally i associate a Floating IP and ssh to it passwordless using key. It is not possible to do it

2)Should the neutron-plugin-openvswitch agent be installed on the Controller and The Compute?

3) The Nova compute has only the nova-compute installed. Should we configure the br-int to point to the Floodlight Controller on the Compute node 4) The IP address of the VM instance is sometimes not shown during boot up. Currently i have removed the iptables and then the IP Address is shown, but the VM instance is not pinging.

Please help

Hi Joshua, I have a OpenStack setup on a single machine and I have used OVS as a plugin. Now I want to use Floodlight controller as a plugin. The docs I see on net seem to be old as they still describe about quantum. I have Floodlight running, but I feel there is no communication between OpenStack Neutron and Floodlight. So I don't get the networks listed in Floodlight. Can you please share the steps how to integrate Floodlight with OpenStack havana on Ubuntu 12.04. Thanks in advance.

Answers inline .

  1. You cant have L3 capabilities with opensource floodlight, L3 module is only available in commercial big switch controller. So floating IP's wont work.
  2. You shouldnt install neutron-plugin-openvswitch agent anywhere .
  3. Yes br-int should point to the floodlight controller, eg: ovs-vsctl set-controller br-int tcp:<floodlight ip="">:6633</floodlight>

I am not sure about the 4th question.

Are you able to ping the private IPs? I am facing the same problems. I managed to login with the VNC-Web-Interface... If you have solutions, please tell me.

I can ping the private ips only using ip netns exec qdhcp--- ping <private ip=""> Can you share your configuration details. I am strugging to find a solution for this for a long time. Bcos of this I am not able to login to Ubuntu and fedora images as i dont know the default password

Sure, very shortly: Go to VNC Web-Interface. 1. Restart the VM by doing ctrlAltDel 2. Click "e" when choosing the bootpartition 3. Add "init=/bin/bash" to the Linux-Line (remove the console=ttyS0 statement) 4. Use CTRL + X 5. Type following command: mount -o remount,rw / 6. Change passwd of default user (most probably ubuntu in ubuntu image): passwd ubuntu Enter passwd twice 7. Now change some ssh-options for authentication (maybe you dont need it): sudo nano /etc/ssh/sshd_config Change the value to "PasswordAuthentication yes" 8. Restart SSH: sudo service ssh restart 9. Reboot again. This is working for me.

yes it worked. i am wondering what to do next. The openstack talks about Bigswitch Router rules and Floodlight doesnt support Floating IP, L3 capability. Is this all applicable only for Commercial Bigswitch Controller

Yes, only for the commercial Big Switch controller afaik. You should be able to ping from vm1 to vm2 in the same network.
