Havana Ubuntu 12.04 LTS. Created four vm instances. All of them failed to get network info i.e instances did not get IP address. Now I'm trying to delete them. Delete is failing, too. When I did further troubleshooting I noticed that the delete command is trying to get network info for instance to be deleted.

I'm stuck in a loop: Instance failed to be create correctly because it is not able to get network info. Now delete is failing because it is not able to get the network info. Create and delete are failing for the same reason.

Any idea why it is trying to get network info for instance which is getting deleted? How else should I get rid of these bad VMs?

When an instance is being deleted, the network resources consumed by it will be released to the pool of free resources.

Thanks Unmesh. Question when instance itself failed to create due to network issue, logically delete should not look at network again. This is where my question.

@dheeru: An instance can have multiple networks associated if it has multiple nics. Therefore, it becomes necessary to verify and delete any network resources which were successfully allocated. You need to debug the exact cause of get network failure to proceed further.

thanks unmesh. I agree with you. As you said it can have mutiple NICs. It can be associated with any number of networks. However here instance is not able to associate with any netowkrs. It is failing in this step only. When overall networking step itself failed for instance, how relevant it is to check for network when deleting ? Instance does not have IP, interface nothing.

@dheeru can you post some of the errors in the logs so that people can help debug the issue? It may be a bug.
