Nagios finds two Openstack-nova-compute processes

I created a Nagios check for the nova-compute process, and it is defined to alert whenever the process is not running, i.e. if the amount is not equal to 1, it has give me a couple of times a warning saying this:

PROCS CRITICAL: 2 processes with command name nova-compute

My question is, how could it be possible that two nova-compute processes run in the same server? or could I be facing a bougs report.

As Jtopican already said you can check ps -aef | grep compute on your compute node. This could be legitimate processes. Do you have any configuration set workers=2 or something in compute.conf ? When you are seeing these processes is it that one compute is parent and another child ? Just look at the PID and parent PID of both the processes. If that is the case by default it could be creating two processes.

Did you check and resolve this ? Please update. This helps others as well.

It's possible that you're seeing a false positive. On the compute node itself, do you see two different nova-compute procs when you run:

ps aux | grep nova-compute
