I am deploying HEAT templates via a user that has access to multiple projects, but the auth token I am using is associated with a specific project. Each project has a set of networks with the same names in each project. I am trying to use the network name in the template, but it fails because it sees the networks from other projects as well. I know I can use the network UUID, but that means additional external work to get that ID. I would like to be able to limit the name scope to just the one project, where the name is unique. That way, the same template works for any project without having to pass in additional parameters.

Hmm, this is more interesting than it sounded at first glance. I'd have expected the list of networks Heat gets back from Neutron to be scoped to the same tenant as the token. This might be worth a question to neutron & heat developers on openstack-dev.

Users can pull the UUID from the dashboard by clicking the network. They won't have to use the CLI or anything to pull the UUID.

You could also see if using the subnet option works. If your users have the same subnet names then you'll run into the same issue.

This is all being automated, and it is several extra steps to go get the network (or subnet) UUIDs. The template could be completely self-contained if the scope of the network names were limited to the project.
