Hi all,

Currently, I am working on Heat auto-scaling. I know that alarming is provided by Heat but it currently goes with auto-scaling. I wonder whether I can only use Heat for alarming. It means that I will only mention to Ceilometer resource (OS::Heat::Ceilometer::Alarm) and remove all things related to auto-scaling resource in HOT template. Please let me know whether alarming still works fine.

Actually, when alarming does not go with auto-scaling, alarm url for auto-scaling is meaningless. Please kindly let me know whether I can set external alarm url in HOT template so that Ceilometer can trigger alarm to my desired destination.

Thank in advance!

Yes, Ceilometer alarms are not tightly coupled to Heat autoscaling. You can set up an independent Ceilometer alarm and provide any URL you like as the alarm URL, and you can do it through an OS::Ceilometer::Alarm resource in a Heat template if you want.

Hi Shayne $ zaned, Can you please elaborate on how to manually set up an alarm_url in OS::Ceilometer::Alarm ? When I try to add the alarm-url as a property in the resource, it says its invalid argument. Kindly give your input, sample template would help.

The property is called alarm_actions: It takes a list of URLs
