I'm running openstack liberty on Ubuntu 14.04 trying to install keystone using this guide. http://docs.openstack.org/liberty/install-guide-ubuntu/keystone-install.html (http://docs.openstack.org/liberty/ins...)

When I type /bin/sh -c "keystone-manage db_sync" keystone from root I get SQL connection failed. 10 attempts left, 9 attempts left, 8 attempts left, etc.

output of netstat -anut|grep 35357 is: "mycontrollerip":35357 CLOSE_WAIT 7297/python "mycontrollerip":35357 CLOSE_WAIT 6291/python "mycontrollerip":35357 CLOSE_WAIT 6360/python "mycontrollerip":35357 CLOSE_WAIT 6316/python "mycontrollerip":35357 CLOSE_WAIT 6380/python "mycontrollerip":35357 CLOSE_WAIT 5915/python "mycontrollerip":35357 CLOSE_WAIT 6331/python

I would check the following:

  • MySQL is running on port 3306
  • You are able to connect to MySQL using the mysql client
  • The connection URL is properly configured:

The example in the install guide assumes you have a /etc/hosts file entry for 'controller' to the IP of the host, preferably the management IP and not 127.0.0.1:

connection = mysql+pymysql://keystone:KEYSTONE_DBPASS@controller/keystone

  • Check the password. Replace the KEYSTONE_DBPASS in the connection string with the SQL keystone user password set while following the guide
