Hi all,

I am little confused on where the snapshot of an instance is stored right after the snapshot process was completed before being uploaded onto glance. Is it stored in the local hypervisor?

Thanks!

Hi,

  1. While creating the snapshot , it will access /var/lib/nova/instances/snapshots. It will create temporary file while doing snapshots

  2. After that snapshot file will be stored as glance image i.e it will be stored in path used by glance image service. /var/lib/glance/images

You can get more information from nova-compute.log while snapshot process

From the following command you can find the list of images uploaded in the environment.

glance image-list

Check the images list and if you want to download the image from the image list user the following command,

glance image-download <imagename> > <imagename.qcow2>

it will download the image into the location where you execute the command

Completed snapshot files are located /var/lib/glance/images/ on controller node. The file names are UUIDs of glance images, you can check via glance image-list-command.

This is useful if you want to migrate snapshot to another host. After migrating snapshot file you may add it to your glance images via glance image-create-command.

Hope this helps. Good luck.
