Hi all,

I'm running a fresh install of an Ubuntu 14.04 x64 server (on virtualbox).

I am trying to test tacker in a devstack environment. So far I have tried the latest stable Liberty & Mitaka branch without success. Here's what I'm doing (I'll use Liberty in this example, but the process I'm doing for Mitaka is the same) :

  1. Checkout the latest stable branch from the devstack git (git clone -b stable/liberty (
  2. Create a local.conf file inside the checked-out directory (Content is available here: )
  3. Run ./ (NOT as root)
  4. Create a directory named tacker directory of the home folder that will contain two files : My (opennfv_rc file) to set the proper environment variables so that I can use the tacker CLI AND The (following yaml file) for a simple cirros deploy, based on the examples provided in the (Tacker Hands On NFV Session)
  5. Use the following commands to create my vnfd & vnf based on the template @ step 5.

    $ tacker vnfd-create --vnfd-file ~/tacker/cirros-test-vdu.yaml --name cirros-test-vdu

    $ tacker vnf-create --vnfd-id ad99648f-84cf-43d2-96a8-53787331eb13 --name cirros-test-vdu

Note : the --vnf-id value for the vnf-create command is show in the terminal after the vnfd-create command has completed successfully. If you execute this command you will obtain a different ID and will have to use this one.

What happens is the VNF is created successfully, I see no ERRORS / WARNINGS in the logs of devstack for any module, and the NFV dashboard shows the created VNFD / VNF. However, no instance is created (under any project - admin, service, demo - ), what am I doing wrong ?

I checked that I can spin up a VM using only nova and it works so I eliminated a possible problem with the compute module. The same thing happens regardless of the version of devstack that I am using (Mitaka/Liberty)

Any help is greatly appreciated !

Could you verify the status of created vnf. tacker vnf-show <vnf-id>

Hi Dharmendra,

There is an output ! I can see the attributes, the description, the Id, instance ID, name, status {ACTIVE}, as well as the tenant id.

That's confusing, there is nothing in nova (nova list --all) and nothing in the dashboard as well

I verified the tenant_id that is shown in the table of tacker vnf-show and it corresponds to the correct user (admin). However, the admin project still shows no instances (dashboard).

Here's a screenshot of my terminal. The vnfd was already created. I created a vnf, then did nova list --all, then tacker vnf-show, and then nova list --allagain

I too have this problem. I think the issue is due to the project which devstack creates for tacker. It's "nfv" project and not admin or demo or service. (I 'm not very sure though).
