On doing

nova service list

all other nova services like nova-cert,nova-cosoleauth,nova-scheduler and etc are up and enabled but nova-compute is enabled and down on compute machine /var/log/nova/naova-compute_log is showing below error

2016-06-10 12:11:47.583 24483 TRACE nova.openstack.common.threadgroup File "/usr/lib/python2.7/dist-packages/nova/virt/libvirt/driver.py", line 6466, in __init__ 2016-06-10 12:11:47.583 24483 TRACE nova.openstack.common.threadgroup self.update_status() 2016-06-10 12:11:47.583 24483 TRACE nova.openstack.common.threadgroup File "/usr/lib/python2.7/dist-packages/nova/virt/libvirt/driver.py", line 6497, in update_status 2016-06-10 12:11:47.583 24483 TRACE nova.openstack.common.threadgroup disk_info_dict = self.driver._get_local_gb_info() 2016-06-10 12:11:47.583 24483 TRACE nova.openstack.common.threadgroup File "/usr/lib/python2.7/dist-packages/nova/virt/libvirt/driver.py", line 4609, in _get_local_gb_info 2016-06-10 12:11:47.583 24483 TRACE nova.openstack.common.threadgroup info = libvirt_utils.get_fs_info(CONF.instances_path) 2016-06-10 12:11:47.583 24483 TRACE nova.openstack.common.threadgroup File "/usr/lib/python2.7/dist-packages/nova/virt/libvirt/utils.py", line 446, in get_fs_info 2016-06-10 12:11:47.583 24483 TRACE nova.openstack.common.threadgroup hddinfo = os.statvfs(path) 2016-06-10 12:11:47.583 24483 TRACE nova.openstack.common.threadgroup OSError: [Errno 2] No such file or directory: '/usr/lib/python2.7/dist-packages/instances' 2016-06-10 12:11:47.583 24483 TRACE nova.openstack.common.threadgroup

Please tell what is error is about and what i need to correct in configurations.

Did you try restarting the libvirtd.service and nova-compute service on the compute node?

Please check https://docs.openstack.org/ocata/install-guide-rdo/nova-compute-install.html (https://docs.openstack.org/ocata/inst...) This parameter is not documented and also triggers this error.

May be you should notice about the value of state_path in nova.conf. Here are some sentences from the nova configuration

#
# The top-level directory for maintaining Nova's state.
#
# This directory is used to store Nova's internal state. It is used by a
# variety of other config options which derive from this. In some scenarios
# (for example migrations) it makes sense to use a storage location which is
# shared between multiple compute hosts (for example via NFS). Unless the
# option ``instances_path`` gets overwritten, this directory can grow very
# large.
#
# Possible values:
#
# * The full path to a directory. Defaults to value provided in ``pybasedir``.
#  (string value)
state_path=/var/lib/nova

It seems that if the state_path value isn't provided, its default value will be the pybasedir, which is '/usr/lib/python2.7/dist-packages/instances in your error log.

Hopes that will help.

P.S. I'm in Ocata, and the default value of state_path is /var/liib/nova in Newton. Maybe its a new bug?

Hi,

Just cross check /etc/nova/nova.conf file whether that has these required fields http://docs.openstack.org/mitaka/inst....

Before checking configurations, make sure your physical connection to your compute node works fine. Can you ping your controller from your compute node and vice versa. Then restart nova-compute and libvirt-bin in your compute node. Finally make sure your configuration is ok.
