Hi Guys,

sorry to ask once again. i'm planning to install openstack mitaka. looking forward to have neutron in DVR mode. please advise the requirement.

  1. does the external interface of compute node require to have a public ip address?
  2. do we still need to have a network node? or can we just use the compute node directly?
  3. will it support vlan or gre instead of vxlan?
  4. what is the best approach to have neutron to be installed in DVR mode?

Looking forward for your reply.

Thanks.

Have you tried playing around with Mirantis OpenStack 8.0? They have virtualbox scripts that can get you up and running in a few hours and you can play around with a DVR deployment. It is Liberty based but you can use it to see how the config files are set up, OVS bridges, etc.

All statement bellow are based on experience related with RDO Openstack Liberty and Mitaka releases.
1. If bridged external networking is used then "YES", if you invoke external network provider of flat type "NO"

2. We still need Controller/Network or Network Node for DVR_SNAT
3. VLAN is supported ( since Kilo release I believe)

Never tested GRE.
4. Standard approach for RDO may be seen here
