I have created a windows image in Ubuntu VM with virtio drivers. Its been converted to qcow2 and I can launch instances with this image. The problem is, I am not able to update the image. It keeps on searching for updates. I have tried every possible way I could find on the internet. Can anyone help here !

PS: The ubuntu VM that I used to create the image was also one of the Ubuntu Instances on Openstack. Does openstack block windows updates?

How did you get it working, I mean I had also created a Win2012R2 image but it gets stuck during boot and I get BSOD. My env is virtual with QEMU hypervisor, do we require bare-metals to boot Windows Image?

Hope you have created Windows image as per Openstack guide, for Patch update issues, please check the following things

  1. If you are trying to pull patches from Internet, make sure you have done proper WSUS configuration and can able to reach outside world ( ping, Here my blog for WSUS from Internet

  1. If you are trying to pull patches from Intranet, make sure you have done mapping Intranet server IP & port details in windows local policy, check firewall is allowed to talk with intranet server from VM, then you can able to pull patches, here my blog for WSUS for Intranet setup

being this is your home setup, keep firewall down inside windows machine and do patch update
