We are using Openstack swift kilo version (Object Storage service) with tempauth used for authentication. We haven't used any identity service for authentication.

We have couple of servers dedicated for swift and each server has both proxy and storage servers installed in it.

As I didn't find the instructions for my case, I am here to get some guidelines for updating the swift service from kilo to liberty, I am assuming the following steps but want some confirmation on this,

  1. Stop all the swift proxy and storage services.
  2. Take a backup of this directory '/etc/swift'
  3. Update the liberty rpms
  4. Make configuration changes if any.
  5. Restart the services
