Compute and Cinder

Hello,

I am playing about with openstack- I have a SAS too which I'd like to be managed by cinder.

My compute nodes are two rack mounted servers with fiber to the SAS. My controler is a Xeon desktop, without a fibre connection to the SAS.

What I'd like to do is go ahead and install cinder on one of the computes and reference the SAS via it's fibre connection.

Before I do do this, would anyone tell me if I'm going to have issues or if there are any caveats I should look out for? Or how I can have the SAS managed by cinder from another networked node which isn't attached by fibre to the SAS- the logic of how I'd do that is escaping me!

Thank you!

Will anyone say this can work?

Hi,

Any storage on the back-end, cinder manages through the driver provided by the storage vendor, check you have the driver available for that storage box. and can you put some more details, like you are going to use local storage or a storage array like netapp/HP..

Hi @kumar-lakshman-kumar,

Thanks for the reply.

It's a HP SAS that's attached- I'm guessing but it looks supported. My main hurdle to understand is whether or not cinder would work if it's running on a compute node, and not on the controller ot a standalone server.

So yes- no issues here, one compute node serving a cinder-volume SAS just fine.
