controller node with i3 Processor

I have multinode setup with grizzly version on ubuntu 12.04. Currently i am using i5 processor for controller node. Now i am going with i3 processor for my controller node. Is it ok for going to i3 processor for controller node? we get any performance issues with i3?

Review the load throughout the day on the controller with the i5 processor.

If the load is <1 for most of the day, then the i3 processor will be just fine. But if your controller has a medium-to-high load constantly throughout the day (I'd say 3-7 for a load average), then the load will only go up by moving down to an i3 processor.
