I'm trying to follow the guidelines in http://docs.openstack.org/developer/t.... I ran:

git clone https://github.com/openstack/tempest/
sudo pip install tempest
sudo tempest init cloud
[Errno 2] No such file or directory: '/usr/etc/tempest'

Here is the tempest:

$ pip list|grep tempes
tempest (9.0.1.dev261)
tempest-lib (0.14.0)

I don't know why it looks in /usr/etc/, but /etc/tempest doesn't exist as well. I did find this launchpad https://bugs.launchpad.net/tempest/+b..., but it doesn't help really.

Why does this happen?

The documentation says you need to install Tempest from the local cloned repo:

$ git clone http://git.openstack.org/openstack/tempest
$ pip install tempest/

So note that you are installing from the local tempest directory, so it's important you use 'pip install tempest/' instead of 'pip install tempest' .

Also you don't need sudo to install it.
