How to find out what REST API members are optional

I am integrating with OpenStack using a java client library that merely translates REST responses to dummy java objects. As a result, some fields can have a null value as the fields are not part of the json response at at. fault or OS-EXT-STS:power_state on /v2/XXX/servers/YYY to name a few. Looking into the http://developer.openstack.org/api-ref-compute-v2.1.html (API reference), the former is not mentioned there at all and the latter provides no indication that it can be omitted. Some other API endpoints mentions that request/response arguments are optional but it does not seem complete to me.

Is there some more reliable source of wisdom? Or is this a documentation bug I should report?

Hi, thanks for asking and apologies for the delayed response.

You can see (Optional) indicators in the parameter listings on http://developer.openstack.org/api-ref/compute/?expanded=#create-server (http://developer.openstack.org/api-re...) for example.
