Both Nova-network and Neutron are two different implementations of "networking as a service" for OpenStack. Nova-network is old one and currently it is obsoleted. It is based mostly on iptables and has some deplorable design flaws. Neutron is modern and more reliable.

So if you are new to OpenStack and you have no any legacy projects you should better stick to Neutron.

You can watch the following presentations to become acquainted with technical details: for Neutron: http://www.slideshare.net/nearyd/neut...

Thanks Vinoth,

So what would be the good choice of the following :

  • A multitanent network cannot be created
  • No api
  • IP addressing cannot be controlled
  • IP management of VM instances is not possible

Yes, you can not create tenant network using nova-network Nova-network has api support.

I always go with the neutron network for my deployment unless nova-network is purposely required
