I'm following http://docs.openstack.org/developer/swift/development_saio.html (http://docs.openstack.org/developer/s...). I know that python does not need to be compiled so if I make any change in the source code. Do I need to just restart the services or do something more?

Just restart the services. For example, when you make changes in horizon code, you have restart apache/httpd service.

Run sudo swift-init restart main

For development I also recommend to use this https://github.com/swiftstack/vagrant-swift-all-in-one (https://github.com/swiftstack/vagrant...)

Just restart the service is fine and enough.
openstack-service restart [service-name]
