Try out these steps.

1.Check all the openstack services are up by using command #nova service-list

2.Try to manually reset the state of instance #nova reset-state --active instanceID

3 Again try to delete the instance using

#nova delete instance ID

Regards, Anand

Thank for the hints. I found that the services are down due to changing of hostname. is there anyway to update the hostname without affecting the services?

Did you make sure that the new hostnames are reflected correctly in all of the openstack config files?

maybe I missed some changes, anyway, I have fixed it by re-installing the controller and compute nodes.

In my case all the services are up, but still i am not able to reset the state to active. It gives error.
