Can I use Cinder/Ceph volumes as bootable discs?

Basically I'm wondering would it be possible to use Cinder or Ceph's volumes as bootable discs for my VMs. For example when I create my VM, first I create a volume and then attach it to my VM. Once it's booting, it's installing it's OS into that volume.

So when I'd design my compute and Cinder/Ceph nodes like this:

  • Dual E5-2620v3 CPU, 32GB RAM and 64GB SSD for compute1.
  • E3-1271v3 CPU, 16GB RAM and 6 x 3TB SATA3 for block1.

Would it work?
